Guest guest
Hi everyone! Thank you for the lovely welcome. I'm sorry I sounded like a robot in my introduction that 200 character limit was difficult to negotiate. I found the group by doing a search on yahoogroups. I've spent the last two weeks researching and ordering many books from amazon.com. I've had A Hip Chicks Guide for a few months now but as easy as the book is supposed to be, it still didn't really help me get started. All the books I have are great about educating me on macrobiotics and giving me recipes that I find interesting, and I have the information I need but I really am confused about how to get started! I nearly ordered the sampler kit off the Kushi site because I figured it would help me get past the " What do I buy? " confusion. I hate to cook and I've been cooking regularily in order to help me get my feet wet but I still just feel so overwhelmed. I need someone to break it down like I'm 5 years old and say, " You need to get this this and that. and here are a few recipes to get you through the week. " So that I can build my own list. I need a starter kit from people who have also gone through the just starting out tornado. As far as my story, I stopped eating meat about 10 years ago. And a few months after that stopped eating dairy. I have a blood condition that was causing me some problems in college. The doctors told me to start eating meat so I decided to stop eating dairy and it worked. I had no problems I was vegan until I joined the touring cast of a Tony Award winning show. My hours were difficult and I was living in and out of hotels. I had to rely on room service and if hte show went too late and the kitchen was closed, it was either eat nothing or order a pizza. I had to start ordering pizzas. After the show closed, I just got used to the convenience of eating cheese (I never got back into drinking milk but cheese and ice cream were regular features in my life again.). A few months ago, while living in Brooklyn and working as a writer and perfomer. I loved my life and things were going well, I'd been diagnosed with bipolar II disorder while I was on the tour but I was fine and managing the illness. In July of this year, about a week before my 29th birthday, I went to the doctor because i'd developed an allergy to laundry detergent. I was just expecting some ointment and then to be sent on my way. Instead, I was told that I had a growth in my uterus that needed to be tested. I'm sorry, long story short, no health insurance equals moving back to DC with my parents because they were going to pay for the surgery to remove the tumor. Due to some complications, I still haven't had surgery and another tumor has started to grow as well. Both growths are grotesque and have grown so much that my size 2 body looks like it's carrying a 3 month old fetus. Doctors still have no idea what's wrong with me exactly but I'm in constant pain, my hair is thinning, my skin and nails are weak and brittle, my eyesight is deteroriating rapidly, I'm tired all the time, I have no money and on top of all of that my depression, anxiety, listless ness, lack of energy is just consuming. I had such a good attitude about things when I was first diagnosed because I really didn't want to worry my loved ones but at night (like now) I'm just overwhelmed with how uncomfortable I am. I don't like to have a bad attitude about life and I've been thrown some curveballs but I've also had some amazing opportunities so I have to take the bad with the good. I'm just so exhausted and sick to death of all of this. I've heard wonderful things about macrobiotic diets. And I've wanted to try it but my previous lifestyle made it impossible. I have nothign but time and the need to heal myself and feel better about things so I'm ready to get started. Whew! I'm so sorry this is so long. I've had quite a tough day today and more pain than usual and missing Brooklyn during the holidays so I'm running off at the fingers. I hope this answered all possible questions. I really look forward to scanning the page and reading what I've missed. I hope this finds you all well. Take care, B. > This is what she has to say: > vegetarian for 10 years was vegan for 8. Guest guest
Hi everyone! And welcome "b". I too am very overwhelmed and could use a "starter kit" myself. I'll keep checking in to see what help anyone can give. Everyone here is so very nice and helpful ( and if they don't have the answer they'll direct you to someone who does). I'm also sorry to hear about your health "b"...I do wish you all the best. Warmest Wishes To All, Christyb@... wrote: Hi everyone!Thank you for the lovely welcome. Guest guest
Sorry about the " b " business. I'm just used to signing my emails like that. And this the email from my website so I always assume that people know my name. It's Bassey. I'm no trying to be a super spy or anything.... I mean I am... Good luck to you too, Christy. PurpleVeg, Thank you for the number. I'm really kinda shy about cold calling people so I'll wait for more info before I do. I really can't afford pricey consultations, that's why I've been ordering books and looking for forums like this. My health is important so I don't want to wait to have to get started but I still would like to feel less overwhelmed. I've been eating brown rice and vegetables and gave up dairy the second I found out about my health condition. I'll talk to you when you have more time. Thanks again, Bassey. > Hi everyone! Guest guest
Dear " B " Whatever you do add Immunics to your daily life. Immunics cures!!! Logon on here: http://www.wayimmune.org/ They ask for a contribution to access some info and if you cannot give because you do not have income - they will forego any contribution. Immunics will make whatever you do work better. It is not a substitute for any thing else. Where to start? The question. When confronted with tremendous volume of choices where do you start. Its like standing in front of a panel and 20 warning lights go off at the same time. Solution: Pick one just to get started. The same is for Macrobiotics. Pick one to get started. A healthy person should consume at least 60% whole grains. Miso should be a part of your daily intake of food. Choose a whole grain and start with breakfast for example. Or Miso soup. I have already developed several basic recipes for Miso soup. Just start. Obviously if you are not healthy something else must be done and this requires a counselor. From one beginner to another, B. b@... wrote: >Hi everyone! >Thank you for the lovely welcome.
