You might suggest the Ameda Flexishields that are a soft silicone insert for the 25mm. Takes the size down to about 22mm. Since its soft it might conform to the breast better as well.Deirdre Cannon, IBCLC, LLLFor Babies' Sake www.forbabiessake.comOn Jun 5, 2012, at 11:00 PM, "sandbc1a" wrote:

I saw a mom tonight with classic hypoplasia. She has an Ameda Purely Yours (which I have less experience with than Medela) and was using the 25mm pump flanges. The flanges are not a good fit -- lots of areola getting sucked in to the tunnel, rest of the flange is not forming well to the breast. Suggestions on best flanges for moms with tubular shaped breasts?

Thanks!

Hello, .

I find that Pumpin' Pal flanges seem to work well for a lot of mothers with tubular breasts or very stretchy areolar tissue (and therefore pulling too much breast tissue down past the "kink" in the Ameda and Medela type of flanges).

Good idea to try, Deirdre. But just for clarity, the Flexishields have a 21mm opening. The small insert for 25 mm flange brings it down to 22.5mm.

any engineers out there or engineering family members that would design pump shields for hypoplastic breasts??? Flexishields are the best for fit, but still not as great as they could be... had a client who found the pumping to be the most frustrating as none of the flanges fit for her differently shaped breasts, especially the bottom side of her breast where the areola was just a finger width from her chest wall.. kind of a cross between pumpin' pals and flexishield would be awesome.. that could rotate so the narrowest part of the flange could adjust to mom's areolar position.. anyone... anyone.... anyone...
