Hello,

I have permission to post. I have a mom with 4 week old baby who was

hospitalized twice and Peds diagnosed baby as intolerant of proteins in moms

milk and when she went off dairy, soy and nuts all symptoms eliminated. He is

low weight though and I we need to increase moms milk supply fast for this baby.

Her family is from Laos and she will only consider things of that tradition. So

far is doing some breast massage and hot showers. All of the north American and

Indian herbals are out of the question. If Grandma doesn't recognize the name,

it isn't going to be used. Mom is a pharmacy tech at local hospital and is

trying hard in tough circumstances.

I asked about Malunggay and there was no recognition of the name. I have No

experience with this culture in our community so I am reaching out to those from

other areas for assistance. What herbal galactagogues might be helpful for

those from Laos? A variety of names if appropriate would help as well.

Thank you for any ideas!

I would just hand them a copy of Making More Milk and see if they recognize any of the names. Aswhaghanda may be acceptable to them, I looked up Laos and galactogoue on line and came up with the herb called Nea kon ta sarng or Amaranthaceae, just don’t know where to get the stuff or what part of the plant is used http://www.nationaalherbarium.nl/Riceweedsweb/www/altern.htm. I’m surprised she is a pharmacy tech and not OK with our herbs. What if you use another name for malunggay? It's called moringa in some countries.

See if they recognize it that way.

Mochi is considered a galactogogue in Korea. I know it's not the same country, but mention that name and see if they know that one.
