Guest guest
I have to agree, theophyline is an old drug and doctors don't like to use it anymore, accept..... for people like me. If your asthma is really bad, they still use theophyline with all the other newer drugs. It can cause heart problems, and like someone said should always have a regular blood testing done to keep the levels in check. Guest guest
I am aware of that this drug has about the same powers a some very strong coffee to some..But not always so. I have not had coffee for over 15 years and recently someone in a restaurant slipped me some real coffee instead of d-caf that I sometimes, rarely drink. That night I got arrhythmia, could not sleep, and my left side felt like someone put a rubber band on...it was dreadful, 500mg of magnesium helped to kick me out of it,but no fun, felt like I was put through a wringer, just from that one cup of coffee.. However, occasionally I take 50mg of Theophylline when I feel that my usual Asthma meds ( Serevent, Pulmicort) don't pull me through and that small addition makes the difference for me. With NO side effects that I would have from real caffeine. Have no clue why, it's just how it works for my body. Ready to leave for the weekend now... Going to be around campfires, damp night air, cooking fires, ragweed, you name it...Sort of in for self punishment, I think...by the time I come home Sunday night I am going to wheeze something bad..however, I will take in a few dips down to Lake Michigan to air my lungs out and get in my water exercises.* Also take with me one of my cool painted silk scarfs, so I can use it as 'mask' without being too obvious. C-M * BTW, if you have access to a pool and a Physical Therapist, do learn about Exercises you can do to strengthen your lungs in the water. it's sometimes hard for us Asthmatics to have the strength to do exercises, but it's easy. I broke my hip this spring and work out every day at the pool with PT's so I can walk normal again, the breathing exercises were a bonus. Also when the community fundraised for the pool, I pleaded with them to explore alternatives to chlorine for disinfection. Someone listened, it's a non-chlorinated pool and what ever they use I can tolerate. It's been a life saver for me, for I have no pain in the pool and can walk in there straight without a limp.
