A follow up to my email, below. The staff said that it would not be appropriate

to have an outside LC there. They suggested that she come in as a friend. If

an order were written for a lac consult for a particular patient then the

hospital LC would still have to do a consult - so it is a matter of explaining

this to the private hire LC. There's always a way to help moms!

threatened by a private LC who visited a client - I would hope to make a

connection and perhaps even to learn. If I had the chance to listen in I would

hope to be given the ok., and if there were discussion points which I didn't

quite see eye to eye with, I'd hope for a reasonable conversation out of the

patient's room. As to whether it's ok or not for the hospitals, I see 's

point. It has never come up with us. We do have volunteer doula's who are

assisting in births, and one did come over to help with breastfeeding. I was

taken aback initially since I didn't know her nor her level of expertise - not

sure she was an IBCLC. So that's something we need to work on.

They are very open, and really respect and rely on us LC's - even with the

tongue tie " diagnosis " ! We are lucky.
