Guest guest
Greetings All... Any thoughts on my previous enquiry? 62 yr. old pt. presenting with very early stage of CML (chronic myeloid leukemia), no splenomegaly or hepatomegaly, no anemia or thrombcytopenia...being treated with a new medication called Gleevec (not sure of spelling). Will the Ganoderma species adversely interact with the medication? Many thanks... Guest guest
Hi! Had a new patient today: a 37 year old woman with chronic myeloid leukaemia. She has it for 6 years but it only got " worse " over the last year. She has 5 chemo treatments and a bone marrow. She is taking quite a few pills: * Allopunol * Acyclovir (anti-viral) * Clont (metronidazol, which seems to be an anti-every-and-anything!) * Cotrim forte (bactrim / co-trimoxazole) * Novalgin (for acute colic pain). She sought my help as she has been itching enormously over the last 6 weeks. She also has intestinal pains as soon as she eats anything - these were brought on after she was admitted in hospital for suspected food poisoning 3 weeks ago. There she was given the wrong Ax, which interfered with AMN107 (a specific for CML) which she has just stopped taking. I spoke to her at the beginning of last week and sent her some chickweed cream (+hemp oil, mentha EO, Chamomilla EO) which she finds works really well. She wants something to get rid of the colic pain, and there are plenty of herbs I can think. However I also wanted to give her something for her liver as this could also help the itching. BUT is it wise to do with all the drugs she is taking? Could Cynara or carduus, Taraxacum interfere with her drugs' potency? Thanks, J-Christophe
Guest guest
Hi Jean-Christophe, I would send your lady for liver function tests - she is taking quite a coctail of potentially hepatotoxic drugs, and her colic could be liver-gall bladder type (also itching - often indicates liver misfunction). Meantime plenty of carduus perhaps. Also, long term metronidazole would have wiped out her gut flora pretty much clean, unless she has been supplementing with Acidophilus. Hope it helps --- Jean-Christophe Brunet wrote: --------------------------------- Hi! Had a new patient today: a 37 year old woman with chronic myeloid leukaemia.
