Hello! I am new to this list, and have watched your letters for the past

24 hours to get the gist of them, and since it was suggested I introduce

myself, I shall.

I go by Lyn, my hubby is Chris. We live in the northwoods of Wisconsin.

(GO PACKERS!!) I am 43 years old, mother of 2, Grandmother of 3 (4,4,

and 1).

I have been disabled for 15 years with rheumatoid arthritis. Actually I

have a whole litany of diseases/sydromes now.

Sjoengrens, Cushings, high blood pressure, ulcerative

colitis, degenerative disc disease, herniated disc, errosive esophagitis,

fibromyalgia , chronic fatigue and a partridge in a pear tree!! Hence I

am no stranger to chronic pain. I have an excellent pain mgt doc, who is

not afraid to prescribe narcotics, but it took me a long time to find

him. Obviously I am on many meds. Most of the time I am ambulatory,

except for in the winter, when it seems the climate changes severely

affect me. I always use a cane now though. And despite the narcotics

used, percocet, roxycodone, fentanyl , flexeril and anti-dep.'s, I still

experience much pain. I have a total hip and knee replacement, and wrist

fusion.

My interests are my grandchilren, arts and crafts, gourmet cooking,

EATING, Bible study, fishing/hunting,reading, internet,

watching football, sewing, painting, gardening, writing, and my zoo of 2

dogs and 3 cats!

I love mail, so anyone with questions or comments give me a shout! I am

looking forward to learning and sharing.

Take care all!

Hi ,

Nice to have you join the list. Have never been to Wisconsin, but

spent

a lot of time living in a rural, woodsey part of NY, which I loved, but left

for a climate that would allow me more " up " time (Las Vegas (the desert). Your

brief description of your home started me getting yearnings for my own rural

past.

Thanks for the welcome!

We certainly are rural here...live in town, but deer and bunnies right

in the back yard. I was born and raised in this immediate area, but left

and lived many other places. But there is no place like home I guess!!

However, I do have to travel 2 hours to get to my medical clinic.

Our local docs can't diagnose a cold!!

I live in fear of having to go the ER!!!!!

I lived in suburban & rural NY most of my life. Sounds like similar

ambience. I do miss it, But in Vegas we have baby tarantulas crawling around

right now, and even when the weather is lousy (for here) it's still nice.

Medical care is pretty good too.

So far they have been able to treat me, & I drive most doctors nuts.

Would never have thought about relocating, but just came here once for a few

days. Was on my feet a lot at an exposition, and had to lie down for about 6

hours at the end of the day for the pain to calm enough for me to get dinner.

By that time I was driving around town in the middle of the night &

just

started exploring. Found it very likeable. Planned with my family to relocate

here, both for health & financial reasons, but they were rooted in NY &

didn't

come. Itr was a great loss, but in some ways a blessing.

>Hello! I am new to this list, and have watched your letters for the past

Hiya Lyn and nice to meetcha' here. I'm also kinda new to this list, been

here maybe a month now. The last week and a half or so I've not been able

to read or post messages though. Had an intense weekend on Labor Day with a

4 day trip and a family event, then came home and was totally wiped out.

THEN my neck/shoulder/arm/hand started kicking up the next day or so and

that concluded any computer time, or much of anything else. I'm playing

catch-up with the messages today. I enjoy this list, it's the best I've

found in a long time. I hope you'll enjoy it too. Everyone here is so

nice.

Sounds like you're a real trooper. RA is no fun, I watched my Grandma deal

with it. Sounds like you have a good Dr., that is a blessing I think. I've

been lucky in that regard also. Northwoods of Wisconsin, eh? Bet it's

gorgeous up there! Cold in the winter too I'll bet. Are your leaves

changing yet?

I live near Rochester, NY (not exactly the best weather here either...always

damp no matter what season). I'm 41 years old, married to , no

children, 4 kats, and lotsa hobbies. 9 years ago I ruptured a disc at L4-5

and had to have surgery because I was in horrible pain and losing the use of

my left leg/foot. 10 years before that I herniated L5-S1 but nothing was

done about it then. When I had the surgery 9 years ago they discovered that

L5-S1 was in fragments but nothing really to do about it. I have chronic

pain from this injury & scar tissue from the surgery, plus degenerative

arthritis, fibromyalgia, neurogenic kidney and bladder disorder (retention

problems related to the nerve damage and scar tissue...and that can cause

horrific kidney infections), arachnoiditis, and last Winter they discovered

I have a herniated disc at C6-7 with some slight nerve problems in my arm.

Currently I'm taking Percocet (oxycodone) for the pain. I also have other

meds I take for spasms, sleep (with FM you gotta get that level 4 sleep),

high blood pressure (mild), and currently trying Serzone again for the pain

and depression symptoms. I was using 5-HTP to up the serotonin levels but

stopped that a couple weeks ago. It worked pretty good but I got nervous

about the inconsistency of the quality of the stuff since I was taking a

highish dose.

My hobbies include computers & online (I've been online for over 13 yrs.),

sewing, x-stitching (although haven't done that in 2 years now), voracious

reader, Amateur Radio operator, I've been teaching myself German the past 4

years or so ( is German), I love movies..old and new, and making

greeting cards using a myriad of techniques. I like to travel when I'm able

to. used to travel a lot in his old job and I went with him as much as

possible, usually with frequent flyer tickets. I've been to Japan, S.

Korea, Europe several times, and all over the USA. I've always played with

photography and the traveling combined with that was always fun. This year

I haven't gone anywhere except driven up to the Adirondacks where my Dad is

during the Summer. It's not a long drive but a year ago I couldn't have

done it, so it was good to get up there this year. I may accompany

next week on a business trip to Boston. I've never been there even though

he's there quite often. We've still a few frequent flyer tickets left and

the customer pays for the hotels and his meals so it could be a fun and

inexpensive trip, plus the flight is direct and not long.

Once again, glad you're here and hope to see you posting as much as you can!

CULater,

Ruthie

Wow, Ruthie thank you for the wonderful welcome!

I think YOU are the trooper..you have really been through the old mill

too haven't you. I get scared when I read about your back probs cause

those are next on my list. The pain is tremendous in betweeen

treatments, and I know there is more going on there than they can

see.(sound like a hypochondriac don't I). WHen I have these intutions,

though, I am usually right. I tend to be somewhat psychic , or empathic.

I do have good docs, and pain is pretty much controlled on

perc.,fentanyl and roxycod and prednisone. But it is just a bandaid, and

I am waiting impatiently for the new RA drugs coming on the market.

I used to do my crafts everyday, that is until the internet came into

my life!! I really need to get back to them , but I stay so busy onlne

there is no time!

I envy you your traveling! I can't afford to leave town now!! Living on

SS disability makes it very hard . A trip to my docs an couple of hours

away is my " vacation " ..hee hee!

Looking very forward to writing back and forth with you...you are a very

interesting person!
