Oh, NO. I was expecting a white haired old man with a beard of about 6 hairs,

and wrinkles. I am going to bed very sad tonight. You are way too young to be

this sick....

Dear : The eating thing is probably one of the hardest to

manage day-to-day. Other foods that are high in potassium are

potatoes, cantaloupe, tomatoes, squash. I use a lot of spices and

herbs to season our food; otherwise, it's almost brutal to eat. I

only eat at home what Larry can eat. Fresh basil and other stuff

like that really do add a lot of flavor, but no sodium. I guess now,

after two years, we are sort of used to the diet. Our doctors push

Larry to eat protein (more fish and chicken)...which is so different

that what I read on the post here...everyone is avoiding protein.

I am with you on the one pill thing, too. It would be so nice to

just take one thing and be done with it!!!

There is a diuretic that also has potassium in it. Larry was on it,

but we have just the opposite problem --- too much potassium. I'll

try to find the bottle of that and let you know what it is.

Hang in there. Tonna

My first potassium problem was too much. I was on a couple of meds which

caused a lot of it to be thrown into the blood stream. The high on the

scale is 75. I was between 70 and 75 when I walked into an NP's office for

an unrelated problem. The next dqy I received a call saying to get back

into the office asap. My level was such that they would expect I would have

barely been able to walk into an emergency room to say nothing about driving

myself to the doctor. The recheck said the same thing, and I was given

something similar to lactulose which flushed the potassium out of my blood.

I researched my drugs,, found that a couple of them could cause this

problem, brought the printouts to my NP, she told me to basically shut up

and do as I was told. So, after a couple of other episodes with the

problem, ( I would get absolutely exhausted, could hardly walk around the

house) I talked to my cardio about it, he changed my meds, put me on lasix

and then prescribed potassium for me. Imagine my surprise about that. But

he explained that lasix leaves you with too little potassium. And now when

I don't take it for a couple of days, I start getting muscle cramps and

spasms. Life is weird. Jan H
