Guest guest
>if it is not legal in this country or only available through >mlm/pyramid selling then this sounds irresponsible advice to me. Hello Annette, I asked a friend who both wholesales and retails in the health trade why she had noni on her shelves - answer, the ban was lifted / restriction removed. See below... ....unsubstantiated claims for the benefits of ‘Tahitian noni’ have landed marketers in court in the US and prompted bans of the product in some European countries too. Last year’s novel foods approval for noni included the requirement that there were no accompanying health claims to the product. The Irish food authority says however that a number of independent distributors have begun to procure noni juice through internet sites and to market the product in Ireland with health claims. In response, the Irish Food Safety Authority recently issued a warning to consumers that any health or medical claims appearing on products containing noni juice were ‘totally unsubstantiated’. Guest guest
Annette, surely the main problem here is that they are blanket prescribing a single plant, rather than giving the sensible advice to consult a practitioner about appropriate support. Worrying about the legal status of noni, which to the best of my, admittedly limited, knowledge is a safe, nutritional remedy held in respect by the culture from which it originates, is perhaps missing the point. imhop we would be better using energy in querying the appropriateness of the advice, rather than its legality? Guest guest
Sally I absolutely agree with you but in order to suggest to the helpline advisers ( and indeed the BBC for authorising this advice )that it is not ideal to make such sweeping statements I felt it would be added " authority " to mention that it is als illegal. For a herbalist to just say people should see individual help with herbs is bound to elicit the response " well you would say that wouldnt you " !! thanks Benn for your input too Regards , Annette [

It's a tricky thing, but people don't always question orthodoxy's motives, and we need to cultivate an, even slightly brazen, confidence and project it. Especially as it is well based. I get so frustrated at the service we could be providing and do not get the opportunity to. Did you see tha recent article in the Guardian about the pharma's dominance of orthodox CPD? There was a lovely quote from a doctor who was questioning the status quo. He said their problem was that they were " guilty of suspecting themselves of the best possible motives " ! best wishes Sally ps I've just been to 2 mainstream events for mental health awareness week, and have attempted to put this into practice. Result - I got asked to talk within the latest initiative on healthy eating and exercise and offered a fee (I think I may have underquoted, but that'll leave em more for the project so no harm done) , I had an intersting conversation with a very nice woman from the doctors support group. (Did you know the statistics on the numbers of clinically depressed doctors?), and I met people who were interested in helping me find funding for providing herbal medicine to local people who can't afford it. I'm pleasantly surprised. > > List Owner > > > > Graham White, MNIMH > > <image.tiff> > > <image.tiff> > >
