Hi, thats great news. I'm glad MACA is working for you. I believe your right

when it comes to the endocrine system. And I too have adrenal fatigue.I been

seeing adrenal fatigue come up quite a bit on here when the last couple months,

I think this is a big break through for us all.

Hi andrea,

I have a similar story. I was on SSRIs for about as long as you, and started at

around 16, so I don't have a point of comparison since I too was not sexually

active. When I was younger I was also diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency.

I have had essentially no sex drive ever, and am unable to reach orgasm. When I

use a vibrator, I can feel some sort of contraction but no pleasure. Only when I

rub on something to masterbate is when I can have some orgasm-- if you even want

to call it that-- it's very weak/unsatisfying.

I've tried all sorts of stuff..DHEA, Mucana Pruiens, inositol, viagra (once),

requip. NOthing works. Have you tried anything else? If so, did anything work

for you.

I dont think I've tried maca but am not very hopeful given all I've tried.

Did you have orgasm issues or just low sex drive?

My story -- all of this makes me think the endocrine system and HPA axis are involved:When I first starting having sex, could not have orgasms because I was on SSRIs. Got off the SSRIs and was able to start having orgasms with a vibrator. I was able to have several orgasms in a row back then.

Unfortunately got back on SSRIs, on a higher dose this time, and perhaps did more damage to my body. Then got off of them again after about a year. Then as time went on, I realized I had adrenal fatigue (perhaps form withdrawal from the SSRIs, which stimulate the HPA axis), so I started using some hormonal and endocrine support herbs under the care of a naturopath.

My sexual response improved with the adrenal support herbs, and I could orgasm from oral sex. Then I got chronic Lyme disease, which messed up my adrenals and hormones again and I lost those benefits.

It's only in the past month or two that things have been enjoyable again, mainly sex with a partner is much more enjoyable than it's ever been for me.

Interesting. What sort of adrenal support herbs did you take? The thing is that

my adrenal glands don't work at all, which you would think would cause sexual

side effects because sex hormones, DHEA etc are all made there. But, according

to every endocrinologist I've ever seen, and according to the National site of

my condition, men and women with adrenal insuff. should have normal sex drives

and orgasm responses. Very strange.

I may look into the maca, though, since it's worked so well for you, and

possibly the herbs. I just started seeing a naturopath so I can mention this to

her as well.

With the SSRIs and Lyme, that would certainly make things more difficult for you

in the sex dept so I'm glad to hear you are finding improvement!

I am currently taking maca by way of a combined natural supplement called SuperMiraforte. This herbal and vitamin mix is marketed as a way for men to preserve testosterone. What I have read about maca is it is an adaptogenic herb...thus it aids in correcting inbalances in our hormone levels. I am not an expert but it seems as though something that would correct imbalances in hormone levels would be very beneficial to the sexual function of both men and women. I am also under an naturopath's care for adrenal exhaustion and take AdrenlAll to help aid and heal my burnt out adrenal glands. I posted on my situation in this group as few months ago and my genital numbness has improved. It is not great, but any improvement gives me

hope. Maca is a very interesting superfood. Mike To: SSRIsex Sent: Sunday, August 12, 2012 10:22 AM Subject: Re: maca is helping with PSSD/sexual dysfunction

Hi ,

That is interesting. I may look into Maca, though I'm not sure if its the maca

root or powder or what.

I too will be seeing a naturopath. She mentioned a test they do called the Asyra

where they test all sorts of things about your energetic state and all sorts of

imbalances and things. Have you - or anyone- heard of this? Is it a scam? This

is it: http://www.asyra.co.uk/

I'm assuming she needs more information on where the issues are in my body to be

able to tell me what supplements, if any, I would need to try...especially since

nothing I take works
