Guest guest
Gentle broadband sound is the best. Constant soft fan/fishtank/fountain noises, day and night, will help him buffer the world and perhaps recover some tolerance. Maybe a kid type tape recorder cd/player with ocean sounds? Record some wind/stream noise? Marsha , MS > > I have a 2 year old little boy with Septo Optic Dysplasia who is very sensitive to sounds. It is not constant though, some days are worse than others but mainly it's when someone sneezes, coughs, baby's cry, plastic grocery bags crinkling etc. It's not necessarily loud sounds always, but rather the pitch or something. I don't know what to do for him. We tried The Listening Program one time and Im going to try doing it again, but other than that I don't know what to do ..... > Any help is appreciated!! > Amy > > Mommy to Tyler (11), Kaylee (8), Spencer(7), and Chance (2, SOD,PACC,ONH,DI,SID,PHP, Epilepsy, developmentally delayed) > www.tknbychance.com > > > " When the world seems large and complex, we need to remember that great world ideals all begin in some home neighborhood. I am a Certified Postpartum Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor and a LLLL. I just recently completed a sixteen month long internship in the lactation department of an NYC hospital and will be sitting for the exam this coming summer. My plan is to begin building a private practice after, hopefully, getting the good news that I passed the exam! I am deep in study mode right now and I thought that a group like this would be a wonderful way to learn and prepare for what comes after the test. Thanks in advance for the wisdom shared here.warmly,

Guest guest
HiLea,Welcome,We met briefly at Tribeca when I brought one of my children in for an appointment. It is great that you are working to provide affordable care. There are several breastfeeding support groups as as well as several La Leche League Meetings here in NYC. Also, many of us offer sliding scales for those who really need it. I have noticed that more and more of my families are being reimbursed. Are you a member of NYLCA?Will you be at the PPLC conferencein Philly next month?BTW, who is charging $300?Warmest regards, Leigh Anne O'Connor, IBCLCleighanne625@...www.leighanneoconnor.comwww.mamamilkandme.wordpress.com(917) 596-3646 Hi everyone, My name is Lea and I've been in PP, officially, for 1 year. Dabbled for a bit more than that. I live in NYC with my wonderful family, which includes 2 children one of whom is a recent nursing alum! My PP (mamimia.org) is growing, but my reason for joining this group is to find out some of the tips for developing it in a way that allows me to continue to serve the women who don't qualify for WIC and can't afford $300 visits. I look forward to getting to know the groups. Lea Todaro
Guest guest
Hi Leigh Anne, I remember you! It is always fun when you realize what a small town NYC is. And,I hope my comment about affordable care wasn't taken wrong. I know most of us do provide sliding scale and that there are wonderful groups as well. And yes I'm a member of NYLCA and will be at the LCinPP conference in Philly---probably just on Saturday. That weekend is after a our first couple trip without children in 10 years! Guest guest
We're taking the family and going for the weekend to Philly - fingers crossed. We'll just be there Sat too. One day alone with the kids is about all my hubby can take. Aidan is 7 and on the autism spectrum which really makes him a very large toddler some days! I can't wait to put faces to names! Guest guest
, What a great win for you and an even bigger win for the mom! Just as an fyi for local NYC LCs with WIC eligible mom's the WIC I used to be associated with in Elmhurst Queens is very very supportive and the LC who is the BF Coordinator has her head screwed on straight. Guest guest
Welcome aboard Annie,I will see you at the retreat!Leigh Anne Hi everyone! I'm a new IBCLC planning to go into private practice. I have been an LLLL since 2009 and love working with breastfeeding moms and babies. I feel like I still have a lot to learn so I am taking it slowly setting up my private practice. I have registered motheringbyinstinct.com and hope to get a website up and running this year. I am mostly interested in education, both for parents and for health care providers. I'm presenting a session at the Leader retreat for LLL of NY in just a month and I'm really excited, though nervous, too. My topic is "The Need for Sleep: What Moms Hear, What We Know" and I'm going to focus specificially on the (not) problem of nursing to sleep. I have an MA in Cinema Studies and I'm actually approaching the literature from a discourse analysis perspective. I have two girls, Beatrice (4) and Cora (19mo), both born at home. I also have another life as a screenwriter for TV, and my husband works in film production. I live in Queens, New York City. Nice to meet all of you. Looking forward to all I will be learning from you-- Leigh Anne O'Connor, IBCLCleighanne625@...www.leighanneoconnor.comwww.mamamilkandme.wordpress.com(917) 596-3646
