Guest guest
Boy its strange you brought this thread up today. I succumbed to my anger at a doc on the RA ng today. He literally called us stupid for being confused on an issue . When I politiely told him we needed his expertise not his sarcasm he went off on me. Said I was a prime example of the failure of western (US) educational systems. That none of us had any RIGHT to be posting our uneducated and stupid opinions on that or any other ng or list. That only researchers had any claim to any knowledge on the RA issue and we spoonfed ourselves what we mistakenly took to be education and now " spew " it to others.AAAARGH! Well....I layed into him let me tell you. Push my buttons will he? He is from New Zealand so has great disdain for our country obviously. What was great is that a very intellectual person on our ng reminded him that cannibalism was still prevalent in his country!!!LOL! My pet peeve is these doctors who have never experienced any adversity in their silver spoon lives coming down from their supposed loftier positions to supply us withtheir so called expertise, without having any knowledge of what it is like to really suffer. I can respect their education, but not their bedside manners. The pomposity he resorted to makes me wonder how he has any patients at all. Or all we all such sheep around the medical profession that we think we deserve to be treated that way. Well, not me, not in the office, and not in circumstance. How about all of you? Give me some good comments for this ass. And Ken, I love the retriburtion. Just grand. Lyn No God,No Peace. Guest guest
As much as I personally have no wish to participate in this discussion at this time ( the topic upsets me too much and right now I don't need the aggravation ) I feel in agreement with Lynda in that there seems to be a segment of the medical profession that could really use some pain once in a while. They might be more understanding. My last neuro-surgeon had the same illness I have and it made things so easy to communicate and explain. Guest guest
I have to say, after some thinking on my initial reaction to the original post, I don't feel that this is something I would ever do, no matter how awful the doctor or health professional was or treated me. I'm not into vengeance. I've had a couple doctors that were less than stellar, by a long shot, but still...... Unless this was all meant in jest, then I read it wrong! Guest guest
Personally, Ken, I find that few doctors have a sense of humor. When I make comments like that to be funny, they just look at me as if I must be crazy. I still do it anyway. At least I know they were listening. Guest guest
Lyn, Right on! But the whole point of learning to play with doctors' heads is you're gotta come up with your own options. Only then are we less overwhelmed by their MD shtick (Minor Diety) and able to have better perspective. I think even our medical listers would recognize the need for this. Anyway, I expected to get blown away on my butt for even bringing up such heresy! But you sure hung in their effectively, and you did come up with a nice slur, the cannibalism thing. you might question him further about that to rub it in; like has he found any relationship between arthritis & chronic pain? Is it a good thing to do? Does he prescribe for aging patients? Some thinking on cannibalism is that it prolongs youth, However it may carry the danger that the cannibal acquires even genetically transmitted pathologies from the menu. with a little more creative thinking, you can imply that he is a cannibal (I like to trade irrationality for irrationality) & ask about getting second opinions from docs whose cultures do not support cannibalism. Sounds like it may be pretty easy to get under this guy's skin, and you appear creative enough to do it. This is a very effective therapeutic technique. but there is a risk of eliciting substantial anger (with this doc, what fun!) However, most docs are bright enough to deal with it, & it has all the makings of becoming a standing joke. Meanwhile, did you get attention for what you needed?
