RE: emulsifier

Bill, I'd suggest you set your sights lower *grin*

I've been unsuccessfully looking for either an emulsifier OR a

thickener that will work well with handmade liquid soap and have come

to the conclusion that it's an ugly battle that is really hard to

win...maybe THAT's the reason for the heavy use of syndets! *grin*

Admittedly, I haven't tried a lot, but haven't found anything nor

heard of anything that will successfully keep either additional oils

or a built-in superfat from separating out, nor have I heard of

anything that will...

I honestly suspect that part of the reason there is almost no KOH soap

on the market isn't just because syndets are cheap and easy to use,

but because KOH soap is just darned hard to work with...

I also think you may find a LOT of resistance to the idea of using

actual soap on the face...most of us women have been indoctrinated

into the 'soap is bad for the face' thing...

Also, given that there's very little that you can do to protect the

eyes, the risk of the consumer getting the soap product into their

eyes is awfully high...and it stings!

Just my $.02 worth...if you find anything, let us know!

I have a high regard for Kibby at FNWL - at every Gathering I have been to

she is the most generous person I have met. I have a bunch of shampoo base

from her that I still need to thank her for.

I just don't know what to think. Would she have been addressing the solution

to the layperson? I think most of us could effectively understand what the

solution was used for.

My linen spray here from Bath and Body works lists only fragrance along with

the Polysorbate and the glycol(s), witchazel and tons of extracts (what you

do with extracts on your bed behooves me). I don't see the fragrance(s)

particulars listed and can't remember the last time I saw fragrance

ingredients listed.

Jackie,

That will depend on the items for which you are looking. In some cases even

the manufacturer will sell small or give away small quantities of a material

for 'evaluation' purposes.

if you'd read my post and the one I was replying to you'd see we were

talking about sprays made with polysorbate 20, NOT about all emulsifiers

available.

An emulsifier is necessary if one wants to emulsify or solublilize the

fragrance/eo in water.

Since a linen spray isn't even a cosmetic one could make a simple spritzer

with distilled water and eo's, it would just need to be shaken well before

each use.

Sherri,

I have read your post and the comment was that: " So you may find some that

will be opaque no matter the

ratio of polysorbate 20 to fragrance, others that will be clear and some

will even start out clear with an opaque layer settling out later upon

sitting (a simple shake before use and this is fine). "

My comment is that there are few fragrances that you can't solubilize with

polysorbate-20. You may need to increase the concentration beyond the 1:1

ratio that you start at and you may need to add heat to assist in the

chemical reaction. Barring that there are other ethoxylated nonionics that

can be used and these include PEG-40 Castor Oil and Isoceteth-20. There is

no reason that anyone for any type of product (cosmetic or otherwise) should

have a poorly formulated product in which the fragrance has not been

solubilized.

If you go back and read my response I stated that there is no reason that

you can't solubilize your fragrance.

Re: emulsifier

With all the talk about emulsifiers, my interest is piqued. It seems from

what

has

been posted, FNWL is out of the question as a supplier for this, so can I

get

recommendations of where to buy an emulsifer for body or linen sprays?

Thanks much!
