Guest guest
Greg, The pain meds are probably not too good for her liver. Plus they tend to be a depressant so are probably not helping with the energy and mindset. Honestly this may sound gross, but I think I would skip the shower one morning and try to go for a walk instead. Then take a nap and do the shower thing in the afternoon. The walk may help bring her back a little energy after a few weeks. It will also help manage any tendency towards diabetes that often comes on with liver disease. Managing the time with no energy is about the most frustrating thing! I always come away from the doctors feeling like they don't understand about about the fatigue thing either. I mentioned it again to my doctor my most recent visit and he basically told me not to whine. UGGH! I am not a whiner most of the time but if I can't tell him who can I tell. I really thing they just don't have a solution so they like to give the problem no acknowledgement. Hey BOB, if you read this, I sent the Spoon story to the Judge that will hear my SS appeal. I hope she reads it ! lol. If she can wean herself off the pain meds she will find a little bit of pain med goes a long way later. I don't take anything for pain, EXCEPT once in a blue moon when I just absolutely need some relief and it is amazing what just one tylenol will do now, when used to I wanted to take 3 or 4 or something stronger prescribed. However, that is just me and each of us are different. I have always had a pretty high tolerance of pain and a little medicine goes a long way for me too. Greg, you are a jewel doing all the work you are doing. The world benefits from people like you ! Questions about pain. My wife has been ill for close to two years with liver disease, chirossis. She has pain almost daily and do take medications. We went to the transplant for evaluation, and one of the hept doctors said that she needed to get off the pain meds, and do yoga or mediatation. She also wants her to exercise..... but i dont see it.. she does not have enough strength as it is. Her days is usually, when she wakes up, whatever that time is, taking a shower, brushing her teeth, and back to bed or on the sofa, for rest of the day. I take care of all chores, dinner, etc.... I dont think this doctor understand about her energy level at all. Also lately, she has said that her urine is real brown. She sips only on ice, does not drink alchohol anymore. She quit the coffee, and soft drinks. She does eat plenty of fruits... If anyone has any idea, or even suggestions , or even have gone throgh this before.. I would appreciate your response... and by the way, Happy New years!!!!!
Guest guest
Hey Greg, Did the doctors ever say what medical benefit the yoga/meditation would have vs pain medication? There is pain medication available that doesn't harm the liver. I agree with the trying to exercise, but in cirrhosis patients this can wipe them out. It is still beneficial though. Not rigorous exercise but maybe light walks after dinner etc. If her urine is real brown, this may be a sign of an infection. So get to the doctor to check this out as soon as you can. Maybe you can request a lab order over the phone with your doctor. Then you just have to go provide the sample and they can call you with the results. Where is her pain and is there a fever? If her urine is brown and she has a fever I would go to the ER just to be safe. I did this with my wife and we found out she had pancreatitis. P.S., Coffee is ok to drink and studies have shown that it helps prevent liver damage in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis. You can google Liver+coffee. Guest guest
My friend (unfortunately quite distant) teaches meditation and claims that it is awesomely curative and helpful for all bodily functions. I have yet to read up though he's been after me for years . . . just too much ahead of that and I don't take pain medication at all. Old Re: Questions about pain.
