Griselda -

Have you tried that carpiscum cream (I want to call it something like

" Zantac " it's some kind of " Z " name....big help I am, huh?)? My father has

bad arthritis in both knees and since he's been using this cream has been

able to live relatively pain-free. It's expensive, but you don't use very

much and it develops a residual affect where you will need less and less.

If you like, I can contact him and find out the exact name.

Might as well introduce myself quickly, while I'm at it. I am bed-ridden

(hospital bed in the living room - won't be featured in " House Beautiful, "

I fear) due to chronic pain caused by a progressive degenerative disease I

have in my back, Arachnoiditis. I also have three bulging disks, a failed

fusion, degenerative disk disease, arthritist in my back at the sites of

the surgeries and spinal stenosis. It's been a while since I've actually

had to list this stuff, and it seems to me I might be missing one or two

other little problems.

I very rarely leave the house, as the car is in the garage, which is

downstairs and I can't get there from here, it becomes a bit of an effort

to go anywhere, and I'm getting to where I'm more and more hesitant to

leave my house. Being in a wheelchair is extremely painful, which makes it

worse. I do get around in my house by using my walker; the most painful

thing I can do, actually is to SIT.

I have managed some success as a freelance writer and columnist. When I

became disabled I'd been a vocalist and was lucky enough to discover

another outlet for my frustrated creativity. The Internet and my computer

is my lifeline. My husband fixed up a cart on which my computer equipment

can be rolled about allowing me to use it from my hospital bed.

I have been married for 15 years and have a 14-year-old daughter. I have

been disabled since my pregnancy with her. My first back surgery occurred

exactly one month after her birth, and it's been an avalanching

deterioration since. I live on MS Contin, anti-spasmodics,

anti-inflammatories, Zoloft and periodically fun experimental stuff my pain

doctor concocts for me.

I hope we will be able to be of some help to each other. I've found the

pain lists on which I've participated before can often become very derisive

as well as extremely depressing - to me, anyway. I don't know if this is

something indigenous to the make-up of the list, or the nature of all

lists. I tend to need more " Up-lifting " encouragement; there is not a

moment I do not have pain. It's been so long since I was pain-free I don't

even remember what that was like anymore. I'm so sorry I didn't realize it

was a time to have been savored so I could have carried the memory on

through life to remind me how life should be; not what life is.

Peggy-

Sounds like you need a higher dose of Zoloff.

I rarely leave the house anymore either. Riding in the car is

uncomfortable, cause I need to keep my legs up. I take Ralifin,

Napersin, Soma, Zoloff, Pepsid-(bcause of the N-saids)

Atarix, (anti-hystamin- because even the bones in my face swell) and

Tylonal by the bottle! I try to stay away from the codine- but there

are more and more nights that I find myself reaching for the bottle.

Always keep that bottle where I have to get up to get it though- safer

that way. You sound VERY down- and that's going to make you hurt more-

ask the doctor about a little more Zoloff- might make you feel better-

Ronnie

Thanks for mentioning that -- I've tried some of them, but can only use

them occasionally because the pepper juice irritates my skin. But when I

use them, they do seem to help quite a bit...
