You have a right to feel the way you feel and we are all here for you!!!!! 

 

The first time I went to the liver institue, I was told that I could not drive,

could not be alone....my life changed that day.  I have been the independent one

and now (and I am lucky to have my boys  ..  ok ...men) I am dependent on them. 

I am lucky to have short and long term disability.

ok no letter ,so i called said it was mailed yesterday huh? what the

heck happened to monday!! asses, so i talked to a nurse cried and she

told me this much... his tests showed asprin, sleeping med.

tylenol,and pain med ,lortab from the family dr. for pain, so hes not

gonna be considered for another 6 months till his system is clear

from these meds. and i dont understand what do they want him to do

for sleeping for pain??? i tried to ask her other ?s but she said i

would have to wait for the report and i should have it by monday as

well as the family dr. and hep dr..,she said it was avery lenghty

detailed letter, so like that makes me feel anybetter ,now i wished i

hadnt called!!i dont think they are gonna be able to help him ,what

then. we have done EVERYTHING all the drs. have asked of us, they

perscibed the meds. what the hell. ok yeah i am pissed guys, 6 months

what do they know i dont. i guess i will find out soon, like this

Sorry I have been in the hospital this week and am just catching up with the

email.  I was told NOT to take tylenol   ever.  It was the worst thing for the

liver.  Has anyone else heard that also.

 

The not sleeping is horrible!

I have also went thru the 3 day evaluation and received a letter from the

transplant team that I was on the transplant list and " On hold " (my meld is 19)

until I had a renal biopsy (I have less that 40% functioning kidneys along with

the liver failure) and they had me meet with a physcoligist (sp??) but now need

to see a phychiatrist for anti-depressants.

we went thru 3 days of evaluations including psychiatric evaluation. we then had

to get an approval as to if he would be a candidate when the time came. his meld

score has to be  a certain number before he gets on the list. 18 i think is what

the university of Alabama does. it may be a national number but varies greatly

depending on variables like hcc ect...

i don't let my family doc prescribe any thing to my husband unless the hep

doctors approve...we also do not use Tylenol or like products since they are

metabolized thru the liver. if he gets a colds or flu i am very careful with

what cold meds i give him as to not raise his BP.

we go to UAB in nov... he is being checked for the possible development of HCC.

the way his numbers were moving we suspected that without HCC he would most

likly be placed on the list next year, but with hcc it will probably be

sooner...that is if he has it. i ain't claiming nothing that the Lord has not

given us.

I am sorry you were in the hospital this week. I wish I had known. I would have

called you or at least said a prayer. You must have been bored. I was in the

hospital for a week last year. I got " lactulose poisoning " (pneumatosis coli).

It is extremely rare,when nitrogen bubbles invade the lining of the colon, and

the treatment is bedrest with 100 percent oxygen for several days.

What chaps my rear end is this. I know a neredewell that stepped of a ladder

about 25 years ago, said he twisted his back, and has been on Oxy for years upon

years. Says he is in chronic pain but if I hadn't worked a day in 25 years and

weighed 500 lbs...my stuff would hurt as well. He never misses a day of deep sea

fishing though. There is nothing wrong with a persons back when they can pull a

70lb Grouper out of 300ft of water. He was so obese his shoes would squash out

to the sides. He would crunch furniture and mash commodes.

Not long before he moved out of State....Thank God, I had to drop by and ask him

for some GPS numbers on some good fishing holes. All he did was complain about

his knee and how he had to get his quack to up his pain meds. After I had heard

enough I looked at him said, “You don't have water on the knee, you got fat azz

on the knee...if I tried to prop a Volkswagon up on popcycle sticks something

has got to give and my money is on the Volkswagon.” He got madder than scratch

hen with a hangnail.

OTOH, a person can show up at the hosp. with ESLD swelled up and in agony and

get offered heartburn medicine. It has happened to me twice. Although rare for

me it has happened. Go figure?

I want to be very clear--- I don't know if thats what they are thinking. I

am merely telling you my experience with a doctor ( a fellow in the CU

hepatology department) whom was obviously biased in favor of not aggressively

treating pain. My own hepatologist, however, who is this other doctor's

professor just shrugged his shoulders and rolled his eyes when I complained

about her to him. He is practically the one who suggested that I seek help from

a pain specialist, and when I had a very painful complication last summer, he

recommended that the pain doctor put me on something stronger and longer acting.

The key here is to find out why what was said was said, and then you can decide
