I would say yes in some ways. Being overweight puts extra stress on the lungs but having asthma and needing steriods puts weight on. AND makes it almost imposible to lose!! It sort of is a cycle that you just get caught in. I know to lose weight would help me but with all the steriods to keep me alive (I also have NO thyroid) weight is a battle just staying even.

I would say yes and no. I was diagnosed with asthma at age 7 and

underweight until age 25. Being overweight does make asthma worse,

but I know many skinny asthmatics.

Our Jillian has had asthma since she was 18 months and she is now 8 years old. She is very skinny! She eats all the time and is always hungry, but always on the go.

That is why this group and others like it are so important. If you think you or a child or anyone you know has asthma, insist they get a doctor who will listen and take it seriously. I've been clinically dead 3 times from attacks and asthma is not "in the head" and certainly is a very serious ailment to be dealt with.

Hi ,

I just read your message and am so sorry to read that at such a young age your doctors did not help you. Your lungs by now must be full of scar tissue. Things like that makes me so mad. Thank God you have a good doctor now.

Big Hug,

Anneliese

Charlotte, here we go again ! I also do not have a thyroid. A little more in common again hee hee. As for the question of weight, I am over weight 230 lbs. And as charlotte said when you have been on long term steroid use , you do gain weight , a lot of it. But I would also like to add, that when you are over weight, I find that your diaphragm has an added stress and weight on it, that makes breathing even a little more difficult.

Hugs,

Anneliese

Hi Sorry to add to this but I have no thyroid and I have asthma.

I have noticed that on synthetic thyroxin my asthma is hard to control my lungs

get bveryitchy, also my arms and legs ache like mad. If I take just a very small

amount of Armour then it all goes away.

Hi ,

Please don't be sorry, this is exactly what this group is for. I am on the prescription drug "enshroud", I don't know much about "Armour", is it the same as your synthetic thyroxin ?

Sorry, just a little confused.

Hugs,

Anneliese

I have some horrible back pain but what is Armour?? Sometimes I think I'll not get out of bed my back hurts so much. Anyone else have this? The MD says it is side effects of the meds but some days I can't help but wonder if more is going one. The other day it hurt from my mid-ribs down to my hips. Felt like someone had a big strap around me and was pulling it tighter as I tried to move.
