Guest guest
wow. 3 miles to start with might be a bit much. i know for me, i gotta start shorter distances and work up. i was just reading about a guy who started walking in the pool for 20 minutes at a time. he built up to 21 minutes and then up from there. after changing his eating habits and building up his exercise, he'd dropped from 600 pounds to 175. susan, DC

Guest guest
A kilometer is a little more than a half mile. For a quick and dirty estimate, divide the kilos by 2. To get an exact equivalent, multiply kilometers by .6. 3 miles = 1.8 k. hth Elaine > 3 miles=almost 5 kilometers?
Guest guest
Your formula looks right, but wouldn't 3 miles = 5 kilometers rather than 1.8? a it .6 times 5 Not .6 times

Guest guest
Dear Bill, I am glad that you are approaching this on a very realistic level. There is nothing more defeating than setting goal to high or more under motivating than setting them too low. My Dad always says that if you take a course and you get 100% you have under estimated the course or something like that. I was also wondering if you were taking any supplements of any kind. They may help you lose weight if your diet is missing something. Also I have a recipe for a power drink from one of the former Toronto Maple Leafs which I have upgraded and improved. It consists of Plain yogurt, Orange Juice, Bananas, Strawberries, and Honey. I also have a lady friend at work who adds Cranberry Coctail and Breyers Sorbet. She says it's almost a religious experience, which means you've died and gone to heaven. Hope you enjoy. If I can be of any help in the future please let me know. Guest guest
All of those ingredients are in my kitchen at this moment except the yogurt. Am running out and getting the yogurt now. Yes, it does sound like a heavenly indulgence. Will leave off the cranberry and Breyers for now and save them for a special occasion. Thanks for sharing. W. Long Beach, Mississippi Now, if someone will just share a recipe using broccoli and/or cauliflower. I love both, but my usual way to serve them involves sauces loaded with bad things -MW Re: Re: Starting to walk today>Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2006 00:06:37 -0400 (EDT)>>When I started swimming in the pool four years ago, all I could do was >about 3 to 5 lenghts of the pool and the remainder of the 30 minutes was >used up by treading water in the deep end corner out of the way. Guest guest
Dear Labtrek1941, One futher note on the power drink. IF you freeze your fruit it will condense the sugar and you will not need any honey or sugar. I so this with bananas especially. When they get almost too ripe I peel and split them and throw them into a freezer bag and wait till I need them. I have also tried rhubarb(?) with somewhat disastrous results. I was living at my Grandmothers' house a number of years ago and had a similar recipe without the yogurt. I had to buy frozen rhubarb and had forgotten to put it in the freezer after coming home from shopping. I figured I had to make it up right then. I put a couple of cups of the stuff in the blender and added some water, placed the lid on the machine and turned it on. The rhubarb just went whoosh and stuck to the side of the blender bottle and didn't do anything. I figured that i could take the lid off and take a spatula and push it down and everthing would be fine. Do you know that rhubarb sticks to walls, cupboards and ceilings. I didn't but apparently God did or whoever runs this planet. I had forgotten about Mr. Gravity and when he came knocking we had a little clean up party. Needless to say Granny was not a happy camper. She also used to blame me for pluging up the sink drain with strawberry seeds. Unfortunately the lady who had rented out the apt before me used to dump her fryer fat and coffee grounds down the sink. Oh well, such is life. take care. Sincerely Carl French Hamilton Ontario. Guest guest
Thanks Beth, Sounds really good, and I will try it. I am a "moderation in all things" person also, at least in philosophy, and more and more, in reality, and I use butter sparingly rather than margerine. Love the idea of the fish with it. Our fresh, local seafood is just becoming safe to eat again. Hurricane Katrina made local seafood unsafe to eat for a time, and, boy, have we missed it. W. Guest guest
You're more than welcome . I grew up with labs as a child and have a real soft spot for them. My first had thirteen pups. Unfortunately we lost two of them and sold one. the rest we gave to a pet store. We travelled up to our uncles cottage for a vacation when I was about 4 and the dog was in heat. We were travelling in a 1954 Minor and the Trani went in a little town called Dorset not far from our destination. We didn't know the dog was in heat and every dog in town chased her into one of the general stores and fortunately not one of them got her. When the pups were born ( in the middle of a party my parents were having for colleagues of my dad at IBM) one of them had a white spot on its' chest. The old male down in the valley had a white spot on its chest too so we knew got her. So much for our canine history. How's yours? Guest guest
Carl, The one Lab litter I raised, a first (and last) litter for the mom, was also 13 puppies. Labs often have large litters. I never had a lab until about 15 years ago. The people who keep my horses were serious Lab field trialers and gave me one. He was an exceptional dog, and I have had Labs ever since. I was raised with German Shepherds, and I still love them, but the modern American types have such a huge incidence of joint dysplasia, and they are such smart, high energy dogs. I am a little too old and laid back for that. I evacuated to North Carolina after Hurricane Katrina for a month with my three Labs, a foster Lab and my brother's German Shepherd. The German Shepherd was smarter than me and the four Labs put together. I love border collies also, as long as they belong to someone else. Again, too smart and high energy for me. It is good to know oneself, strengths and shortcomings. W.
