Guest guest
Thank you, . This mom is very clear now that baby needs to eat alot to catch up, he's back on the breast, she understands she should feed when before she would give a paci. Mom is lucky to have a robust milk production and no injury to nipples - but perhaps baby's slow weight gain would have been caught and corrected sooner if mom had those problems. Thank you again for always sharing your knowledge and experience. best, > > Dee: > > While I agree with you that the SNS may not help improve this baby's suck and it is CLEAR that the PTT absolutely needs to be addressed and if the grunting is significant that needs to be assessed too -- the most striking elephant in the room in this picture is the poor growth. In all likelihood the PTT lead to the poor growth and the baby probably won't feed well no matter what unless that is fully addressed -- but such a significant drop in the weight velocity ALSO can exacerbate a poor suck. This is not merely a " growth spurt " this is " poor growth " . > > Sometimes an SNS may not help the suck at all and I am not at all sure that it will help this baby and it may even be worse for the baby than a bottle. On the other hand, it may help the baby feed more comfortably if used in a skilled manner with careful attention to the flow for a different purpose -- getting more milk into this very slow gaining baby. > > Best regards, > E.
