I don't know if this is of any relevance: Floradix Iron contains yeast -

which I found out when recommending it to a patient with a tendency to thrush,

which promptly flared up. Maybe you all already knew that.

Hello all,

Flora also makes a product for iron supplementation that is yeast-free:

Floravit.

Cheers,

Dear Jane Anemone is specific for pain of reproductive organs, a bit

symptomatic but might be worth a go.

vulvodynia

Dear all,

Any thoughts on vulvodynia- pain with no apparent cause?

Patient has already had extensive gyn checks from expensive private docs and

is only interested if herbs can help! I wondered if anyone had experience of

treating this.

She is no longer able to work re constant stabbing pains.

Any ideas gratefully received,

Jane Paveley

Have been working with a patient with this diagnosis for some time.Similar

extensive negative gyne tests. It comes and goes now. Mainly it has been

fairly background for the last year. Her symptoms included pain and spasm on

intercourse. Followed by extreme episodes of burning and stabbing pain. Not

always immediately. She would also be very constipated for days and days.

Symptomatic herbs could always improve that intialy, but it seemed her body

would would re-ajust after a week or so. I can't know but fancied that her

lower bowel would go into spasm for similar reasons as her vagina. She also

has a PCO skin picture, though no other symptoms. Was in therapy and there

is a suspected sexual abuse history (She can't remember). Have used many

different herbs and strategies -peaonia, pulsatilla, gelsemium, rosa,

hypericum. Also uncaria for possible infective and fungal issues -stressed

tissue is bound to attract them. I miss using Kava. And we talked alot and

did visualisations and physical exercises. She would say, I think, that the

work we did togeather really helped - but I feel I never got to the bottom

of it in a physiological herbal sense. Lots of things seemed to work at

first, then later they didn't.

Sorry, perhaps this is a bit vague and unhelpful. Can only say, when all

else fails (or initialy even!)treat the whole person.

's experience is interesting. Have never used Corydalis, am looking

forward to trying it.

Vulvodynia

Jane

Pt came to me in July this year with vulvodynia diagnosed three years ago,

with history of cystitis and more recently thrush-like discharge, although

gp/hospital/gynae clinic were unable to confirm this (or anything else).

She was v. miserable and at the end of her tether. She was on a v.

restricted diet when she came to me, following consultation with nutitionist

who advised an anti-candida regime.

Urinalysis: Leucocytes Ca. 75-500

Haemoglobin Ca.50

In order to keep this brief, I won't detail the Rx she was given as these

have varied, and initially I gave her a main tr mix, a tea and a wash. Plan

was to use anti-septic/anti-infective/anti-fungal herbs. Tea for cystitis

and a wash to soothe vulva. She was advised to increase Garlic intake,

fresh if possible, up to three cloves daily (to help restore gut flora - she

was already taking Acidophilus, garlic and zinc supplements).

Next visit:

Pt. reported less episodes of all syptoms (less copious discharge, pain)

Urinalysis: leucocytes Ca. 75

haemoglobin zero

Her main mix was adjusted to include Corydalis yanhusuo as a specific for

vulvodynia.

Two months later, there was no further improvement. Rx adjusted but still

contained Corydalis. Next appt. was cancelled due to tonsillitis. Haven't

seen her since! Happy to let you have Rxs - contact me off-list (unless

other folk interested). Useful website for background info: www.nva.org

(the National Vulvodynia Association).

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks to all who were able to share their experiences of this, much appreciated

and I was able to pass on the NVA details.

The patient has decided to use another therapy at present but if she comes back

I will keep you informed re progress.

Dear Sally,

I have treated a pregnant patient with vulvodynia: in her case it was due to

lichen sclerosus, and she wanted help preparing for labour. A Chickweed and

Marigold infused oil applied liberally and often proved helpful.

best wishes,

irritation and pain from her vulva most of the time, it is worse when she is

sitting for long periods and better when she relaxes.

with either internal treatment or creams. any ideas greatfully recieved. >>

Stress. Cholesterol readings can go up if stress is

not addressed, as can blood sugars. Immunity also goes

down. Give her a hefty adrenal mix along with her

herbs as well as making sure digestion is good.
