Guest guest
le: Do y'all have a good pediatrician? If so, explain your concerns (in detail) and Christians behaviors to him/her and see if a diagnosis is appropriate. Also, check with your school district ECI Program to see if an Assessment is warranted. It's really hard to tell what's going on with Christian from just an e-mail, but it is always a good idea to start looking into the root causes for any behaviors that concern you. Good luck. Any questions you have, just ask. We have a great group of people here. Peacefully, Jeff Sell Hitt, & Sell www.HittSell.com JZSell@... (office) (cell/v-mail) jzsell@... (home) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The information in this email is educational and not intended to be legal advice xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Intro Hi, my name is le. I live around the Waxahachie(south of Dallas) area. I am mommy to 4 see my sig line. I have some concerns, not necessarily autistic, about my son, Christian. Christian is 2 now and seems to have some odd behaviors. I have always thought that my concern over my boys was over reacting, especially since Jordan started talking recently and acts totally normal compared to how odd I thought he acted a year ago. Christian otoh, just seems like his behavior is not normal. I know kids, especially 2yo's throw tantrums, but Christian will let himself fall to the floor and scream and scream. He will crawl on his hands and knees to where I am and lay there. Doesn't matter if he is on the carpet or the vinyl(sp?). He doesn't play with others at all even though he has an older and younger brother and older sister. He won't pretend play at all. It seems like the only time he is truly happy is when he is nursing, sleeping and watching veggie tales. He loves any movie with lots of songs. A beginning song to any tv show will come on and he will stop what he is doing and stand in front of the tv. He hates strangers...or people he views as strangers. Most times he won't even go to dh. He had started saying a few words, but that is about gone. He will look at me in my eyes, but only me and sometimes dh, not anyone else on EARTH!!! Oh, and not always. I was thinking about having his behavior evaluated. Even to tell me it is normal, I just want to make sure. I have wondered, though, who would I take him to for evaluation? I mentioned it to our family doctor and he said if he is making eye contact then he is fine and normal. Is this normal behavior for a 2yo? I'm kind of at the end of my rope as to what to do with him. Generally discipline does not work with him. Usually he just won't listen. An example would be that he wants to stand right in front of the tv when his movie is on. If we ask him to sit down, its like he doesn't hear us. He won't go to bed at night, instead he opts for staying around until he crashes on the floor. Any attempt to put him in his own bed is soon for nothing because we often find him back on the floor in the living room by morning. In any case I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can start with this? Anyone else live in the Ellis county area? Could you point me in some direction? Guest guest
le, I agree that you should find a pediatrician that will LISTEN to your concerns. Your son may be acting like a normal 2 year old but if he does have some form of Autism or anything else for that matter, early intervention is key. Please check w/ your school system and see if they can evaluate him, he may qualify for speech therapy and other services. I think you can trust your instincts and if you think something is not right then it's worth pursuing. Just my opinion - I am NOT an expert, just a Mother. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi everyone! I'm new to the group and this is my first email to everyone. I have been reading a lot of the emails over the last week a lot of the questions, answers and input that everyone has given. I have been comforted to know there are "others" out there like me seeking support in these matters. I am HIV 16+ years and have pretty much run the gammut of drugs & cocktails. I have a lot of the side-effects from the drug therapy or the disease itself -- facial lipoatrophy, buffalo hump, loss of fat in my legs and arms. The facial wasting has been my worse nightmare and I get those "looks" from a lot of people. I have been depressed and am on medication for that too. Although my mood is better I still look "HIV". I also found out that I have developed a cross-resistance to almost all of the drugs available and have been switched to Viread, Videx and Kaletra (with a lot of tollerance problems) but this is my only alternative until new drugs come out in a year or two. So, that's me =) Hopefully I will be of some support to those of you who face these similar problems and vice-versa! Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself. I look forward to continued interaction. Randy

Guest guest
: > In answer to your question about "show biz"; during most of my mis-spent youth (right out of high-school), I was on tour with rock & roll bands. I started out as a humble "stage technician" (aka "roadie" ) and gradually worked my way up to "L.D." (lighting director) and road manager for several different bands from the mid-seventies to the late eighties. Just to give you a point of reference, if you ever saw the Rob Reiner movie "Spinal Tap"... I LIVED IT! Cool! I used to be the co-arranger of small rock-concerts in the early 80's. (Sisters of Mercy, Theatre of Hate, The Pogues, The Go-Betweens and odd bands like that.) What bands did you work with? (If you don't mind telling.) Lighting is one of my special interests too (though mainly in interior decorating). Fascinating how you can produce different moods with different lights, isn't it?
