Well, Peace of Mind is definitely an issue at almost all times.

Actually, it reminded me of this little Sheep programme I have. The Sheep

graze around the screen, and they look very tranquil.

I had a real downer of a day yesterday. Took me a few hours to fix myself

up.

I have an appointment for this afternoon with a counselor.

Thing is overall, despite a lot of negative things happening, I feel pretty

good.

At least I seem to be making progress it feels.

Ah well,

Back to some job hunting.

Good luck our Australian friend, I do really like your web page, it's pretty

fun for anyone that likes rock and roll. Keep the chin up, Cheryl :>)

Keep on smiling, it makes them wonder what you've been up to!

The last update I did was for horror fans. I loaded up a Screensaver with

the puzzle box from Hellraiser :-)

Well, I am smiling right now. I got back from a counselling session. I am

unemployed, stressed out at times, trying to get the Doctors to help, trying

to get a job, and pretty wary of having a possible breakdown.

Anyway, I noted that I get great support from some Internet pals ... so my

counsellor appreciates you as much as I do.

Now if I could only get a job pretty soon :-)

( the low stress one with the I JUST WENT BANKRUPT t-shirt on

standby order :-)

Funny how times change. It wasn't that long ago when doctors and

counselors told us to stay away from mailing lists like this, cos we

would be a bad influence on each other. That we would drag each other

down.

I feel, from my own experiences with doctors and other health care

professionals, that as the online world has grown and become more mainstream

more and more of them are revising their thoughts and opinions on

communications via online. They still are cautious about information

obtained online, and rightly so due to the vast amount of MIS-information

here..moreso than in other medias (not to say that ANY of them have NO

mis-information!), but I see a relaxing toward communications via online.

Many doctors and therapists realize that for some people lists like this,

newsgroups that provide support, and rl (Real Life) support groups are NOT

for everybody. At certain times in our experiences we all need a support

network of some sort, be it off-line or online, and at other times we should

stay away from it or from certain ones. Example: a local FMS support group

here is too full of people who are in the 'victim mode' and I am not strong

enough these days to deal with that, thus I decline support via that group.

Another example, this time online: there's a newsgroup for chronic pain

support that I initially enjoyed a LOT but as my experience changed I found

that I was getting more bad than good from this group because my personality

and that of the bulk of the participants there clashed considerably. I

found it more frustrating to wade through endless amounts of either banter

or over-played, IMO, religious-related (of the Christian nature) topics.

BTW, I have absolutely NO problem with prayer, especially if someone is

having a tough time of it and asks for prayer, but I do have a major problem

with constant discussions and whole posts devoted to typed-in prayers,

Christian, in a chronic pain support newsgroup, especially when they all hav

e easy access to several Christian related newsgroups.

At one time I was co-facilitating an online chat for folks with chronic

diseases. I found that after awhile I became stressed over the commitment

mainly due to the fact that the chat was more of a whine-fest than that of

discussion or mutual support, plus my co-facilitator was either late or

never there and didn't hold up her end of the responsibilities. I am not

saying that we all don't need a good whine-fest now and then, believe me I'm

not too shabby at that, and it IS part of support, but when week after week

the whiners outweigh anything else it becomes tiresome. I spoke with my Dr.

about the whole thing from beginning to end and she was all for me doing it,

felt it would be a plus, but as things deteriorated and I discussed stepping

down, she too could see and understand what this was doing to me and agreed

with my planned action.

So... IMO there are pluses and minuses to any sort of support group, online

or rl, but I can fully understand a doctors reluctance to feel 100% OK with

their patient's participation.

BTW... not since my days with a FidoNet (that's a BBS world-wide network

that was quite popular before the web exploded, it's still going but not

nearly like it was) chronic pain support group have I found a bunch that

seems to be as easy going, supportive and REAL like this group here.

Ruthie <--- she's in Boston, took a later flight in on Monday, exhausted on

Tuesday (It rained all day anyway), felt better yesterday and with

great weather spent some time with hubby seeing some grrreat stuff,

exhausted today (so, I'm STILL not pacing myself!) and although the weather

is great, J is working and I'm going to do NOTHING. Will be home tomorrow.

My doc thinks online is great. Told me one of his patients literally had

his life saved due to online. He now has contact with the world, whereas

he did not before. He did give me the addy for Quack Watch...hee

hee...and told me to be careful. But then he also have me his addy and

said email anytime. I do and he actually answers!!!

I also am having a bad experience with a so called support discussion

board. There is so much flaming there that it is actually stressful.

Problem is, I get good information on my RA from that board. So I am

caught as to what to do . I try to just avoid the threads that look

" menacing " . But I am not the type to just sit back , when for example

someone says because I am not a vegetarian I must enjoy my pain.

Grrrrrrrrr.....

Lyn;

that's what " lurking " is for. I've found that some groups are extremely

beneficial and others only sporadically so. This is the only list I am

active on really. All others I sit back and watch. I still get a lot from

them (most are computer and programmer related lists) but most of the time,

I never write. In a way I'm lucky because in most cases, the other members

know a lot more than I do so I let them answer and sit back and learn. I

think the only list I've ever been a real active member of, before this

one, was the Windows 95 list when it originally started and we were only a

few hundred on it.

I find it very annoying when members go on the rampage at each other and

I'll often just delete all the email from a list until such a time when I

figure the crap must be over with !

Try to just sit back and watch. It's easier on the stress level !

BTW: what's the Quack Watch ? It seems to make you chuckle. What's the

address ?

Wish I could...but I suffer from hoof and mouth disease way too often

and when something trips my trigger I just have to go at it. I know, I

know.....then it is my own fault. Aint life grand?
