Several years ago a German Amateur Radio operator asked, on a Fidonet conference (this was before the web), for an Amateur Radio operator who would like to exchange email in English/German. I started writing with him and we kept it up for several years. He was in his 70s and a wonderful man. We had quite a close friendship, exchanged cards and small gifts in the mail, lots of pictures, and in May 1997 and I visited with him and his wife in Germany. At the end of March this year he passed away, VERY suddenly. I was quite stunned by the loss and still miss him greatly. I have a bunch of pictures in my web page photo gallery of Karl-Heinz and Traudl and also tapes he made me of his music. This is one of the best things that came of being online AND of my willingness to keep learning something new (German)! CULater!
