Guest guest
Without engaging in mainstream politics and compromising all our holistic values, its going to be a long term thing! You will need to get Rupert Murdoch and chums onside for a start. Actually, that should do a lot of it. But what does it mean ' on side'. Does it mean we join their team or they join ours. Given current global power politics, things can look bleak, can't they ? Guest guest
Radio 4 said this morning that 1 in 16 hospital admissions are due to adverse drug reactions (It wasn't clear whether it was all drug reactions or just aspirin and warfarin, so full figure could be hugely more0 I quite agreee that it would be very beneficial for our PR dept to look into spinning this into a clearer picture of just how minute those huge risks of herbal medicine really are. It's surely not beyond our wit ? Guest guest
See this weeks BMJ vol. 329 pp15-19 for the research paper - " Adverse drug reactions as cause of admission to hospital: prospective analysis of 18,820 patients. " 1 in 16 admissions were due to ADRs - mostly aspirin, diuretics, warfarin, and NSAIDs. The most common reaction was GI bleeding. Over 2% of these admissions died. The authors say that these ADRs are likely to cost the NHS £466m/yr and most are avoidable. Also in this weeks BMJ.....lots about benefits and harms of drug treatments including: 1) " Interaction of St 's wort with conventional drugs: systematic review of clinical trials. " Mills et al. The conclusion of this review was that studies examining drug interactions of SJW are limited in scope and methodological quality, particularly in the areas of controls and randomisation and although SJW is thought to have the potential to reduce the systemic bioavailability of many conventional drugs there is not adequate high quality information to guide clinical practice. 2) " Making decisions about benefits and harms of medicines " Greenhalgh et al ....which mentions the Kava ban.
