Guest guest
I saw a mom who had a post partum bleed related to an undiagnosed platelet aggregation dysfunction. She is pumping about 240ml days. Baby is 2 weeks old, has PTT/lip tie and has never latched. I know - all tragic. Mom was placed on an estrogen patch by OB due to signs and symptoms of PPD. I have referred to son's book and have recommended whole foods, flax seed, almonds, coconut milk, brewers yeast, oatmeal etc. in her diet to increase her milk supply along with double pumping. I have been leery about recommending any herbs that might increase bleeding times. Although I did refer baby to Dr. Kotlow for release, I made the referral with caution as baby has not yet been tested for platelet dysfunction. His circ had normal amount of bleeding but his umbilicus was still oozing at 2 weeks (at the stump). I feel in my heart that this mom needs time to absorb and recover before she takes baby for revision but I am worried that this baby will never latch. I've used SNS, shield with curved syringe, prefed, pedi chiro for bodywork (which mom refused) - all the tricks in my book. Now I have to help mom to increase her supply to support baby off formula supplements and onto exclusive EBM.
