I would go with WHO. As far as I'm concerned the AAP and WIC wimped out on what's best for baby with whats more convenient for mom and would yield fewer complaints.Best regards, E. Burger, MHS, PhD, IBCLC

Just as they did with recommending breastfeeding to one year and beyond as mutually desired.... They could have put two years in there but they didn't want to hear the backlash. Cheryl n, IBCLC, RLC To:

The CDC has updated their information based on the WHO guidelines and have even attached the link. They used to recommend cooling the boiled water for 30 minutes but that did nothing to sterilize the powdered formula. They now recommend the 158 degrees to kill the bacteria.http://www.cdc.gov/Features/Cronobacter/ (contains their new guidelines). I wonder how our rules are, would WIC have been able to update the formula preparation guidelines per WHO if the CDC had not changed theirs? I cant speculate on how our state WIC chooses which guidelines to follow, but I can tell you that our dietitians go over safe formula prep individually with each client that does not choose to breast feed. You would be surprised on how many of them-even after they know the risks-do NOT follow these guidelines!!!Liz Brown,IBCLC, RLC, CLCPeer HelperColumbiana County WIC
