Guest guest
: For most injections, it is the proper technique to make sure you're not in a vein, but with these tiny needles going into the subcutaneous area, there are no vessels to worry about. Actually, even if there were it would not hurt to give this IV. Speed is the secret here, get in and get out. Fortunately you do not have to take the time to withdraw the syringe, (which no child would put up with, and the material is blood red also) for any reason, so in and out as quickly as possible is the secret here. The butt area is not dirty and I do not use a wipe for these injections except in the tiny little guys who are still in diapers. Guest guest
I have Dr Neubrander. These are the instruction he gave us... Do the following in quick succession. You may practice the moves using an orange or the arm of a sofa that is covered with material. 1. with you thumb and 3rd finger holding the middle of the siringe (similar to holding a pencil but with different fingers) and your index finger on the plungerof the syringe, quickly insert the needle at a 30 degree angle (this way it is impossible to go too deep) until it stops at the bulb of the needle/syringe. (Think of this move as similar to tossing a dart). This also allows for the injection to go into the subcutaneous fat and because of the " slow- leaching effect " seems to give better results than if injected into the muscle. 2. Immediatly inject all of the solution in the buttocks within 1-2 seconds 3. Quickly withdraw the needle and immediatly put into the sharps container 4. If you do everything gently, you rchild will usually not awaken. If you do everything quickly and if your child awaken, you " will be there " to comfort him/her immediatly and you rchild will not know that and injection had occured. You can use EMLA cream. We never bothered and I didn't add that part in the explanations, I can add them if your interested. did even budge the first time we gave it to him (while he was sleeping) and once I forgot to give it to him and gave it to him while awake... He said " ouch " and forgot about it two minutes later. Dr. Neubrander made it quite clear (more than a few times) that the injections were to be given in the buttocks and at a 30 degree angle. Here is one of Neubranders article on MB12. I also have links to some powerpoint slides, but can't seem to find them. http://www.autisme-montreal.com/congres/2003/Neubrander.html > > Dear Group, > > I am sorry that that i am going to ask you all a dumb question. But i > have to do it.Our DAN doc had put our son on TRIO and as you all > know the first part is the B12 injections I am not a MD and i have > never ever seen any one giving B12 shots to their ASD kids Since I > am living in India ,it is impossible to get a live experience.I want > to start the B12 with him ASAP but i am afraid I will end up doing > some thing wrong. So Is there any way i can learn about it ? Guest guest
No... Since the shots are given in the fat of the buttocks this is not a problem. There is no pulling back. Stick it in, press on the plunger and pull it out. Plain and simple. Francine. > I have never given the shots, I am sure you will get several feedbacks to your question tomorrow from the pros. I do know that when you stick the needle in, you are supposed to gently pull back on the plunger (not the needle itself) to make sure you do not have it in a vein. If you do have it in a vein, you will draw back blood. If you do draw back blood, you are supposed to withdraw and re-stick. Personally, if I drew back blood, I would also change needles and start with a clean needle. But some may not think that is necessary. > Sincerely, > > Need help with B12 injections > > > > > Dear Group, > > I am sorry that that i am going to ask you all a dumb question. Guest guest
Hi Sharmla.. good luck with this... it did great things for my son. I did it while he slept and the trick was doing it quickly. It is nerve wracking at first but so simple. My baby is in diapers and I did it pretty soon after he fell asleep so his buttock was still dry. I just quickly pulled his diaper back and in and out with it in about a second. Maybe I didn't do things carefully enough but it worked nad he improved so I guess it was OK. Good luck and I'm sure it will go just fine. And BTW, even though I am in the US, I had never seen anyone do it either so you are not alone there. My son seldom stirred when I gave them and when he did it was just for a second. Fast is the key I think!
