The people who put it in their mouth, dont know the right way to use it. I am new hear just got asthma last May. I am finely doing well on Singulair and Advair250/50. When I go to use my albuteral inhaler are you suppose to put your lips around the inhaler and then breath in or hold the inhaler an inch away from your mouth then breath in and push down on the canister? Guest guest Posted March 26, 2002 Report Share Posted March 26, 2002 I have had Ventolin and the instructions said to hold the actuator about an inch from the mouth and inhale as depressing the canister to release the medicine. I now use a generic albuterol and the directions for that one say to put the actuator into my mouth to use. Personally I feel like I got more relief faster taking my albuterol with the actuator held away from my mouth, and will discuss this with my Dr. when next I see him. Guest guest Posted March 26, 2002 Report Share Posted March 26, 2002 if not using a spacer it probably is more effective holding it away from the mouth because otherwise too much of the medicine ends up on the back of the throat instead of in the airways. however holding it away from the mouth is not the best thing either as some of the medicine just ends up in the air around you. it's best to use a spacer, using a spacer allows more of the medicine to end up in the airways as the medicine does not get dispersed into the air but due to the spacer it also does not get projected onto the back of the throat. ~ --- Cherylann wrote: > I have had Ventolin and the instructions said to > hold the actuator about an inch from the mouth and > inhale as depressing the > canister to release the medicine. And if it comes out that fast, it hits the back of the throat, and doesnt get to the lungs where it is suppose to be. That is why we are suppose to use a spacer or hold it an inch from our mouths. The therapist at my Dr's office told me to put it into my mouth. If you don't, a lot of the medicine will probably not reach your lungs, which is where it belongs. Guest guest Posted April 9, 2002 Report Share Posted April 9, 2002 I saw my pulmonary dr yesterday and told him I was doing very good on Advair 250/50 and Singulair combination. He now wants me to go down to Advair 100/50. Im alittle nervous cause I have been doing so well on the other dose but I guess its good to try and decrease meds every now and then. Does anyone have problems with cavities or filings braking? I have seen the dentist about three months ago to replace a filing that was 9yrs old and now I think another one broke and have to get that one replaced. This is my first year on inhalers so not sure what effect they have on the teeth.Another question Dr said if I have a problem with the 100/50 Advair I could take two inhalations in the mornign and two at night of the 100/50 till I get a refill on the 250/50.
