Guest guest
Dear all Does anyone have any experience with using vitex in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome? Ruth Trickey suggests using vitex with caution in PCOS in her book 'Women, hormones and the menstrual cycle'(p271). thanks, BSc(Hons) MNIMH Medical Herbalist Bradford on Avon Wilts amanda.lewis@... Guest guest
What's the menstrual cycle like? it is a good idea as soon as there is menstruation to get hormone prfiles done. It helps to see the hormonal picture. Day 7 14 and 21. All you need is the first day od period and then get the others done on day 14 and 21 to see the imbalance. cur out all sugar also. ri PCOS > Dear all > > Does anyone have any experience with using vitex in the treatment of > polycystic ovary syndrome? Guest guest
Dear ri I haven't seen her yet so not sure about hormone profiles. So are you saying there would be a situation where you would use vitex? Thanks Bradford on Avon Wilts amanda.lewis@...
Guest guest
Dear Just to let you know my limited experience around this issue - I have attributed a worsening of some symptoms and lessening of others to vitex, so it depends on your Patient. I think it may exacerbate pre-menstrual breast distension, water retention and CHO cravings (perhaps linked with the blood sugar problems associated with PCOS?) but lessen (emotional) tension and relieve amennorrhea. I have found Pizzorno's guidelines really useful: broad advice including GI diet and exercise as keys for management. Should you use vitex, it may be worth beginning with small doses (e.g. 10gtt) and increase if suitable/necessary.
