Thanks a lot, Philippe. I had already searched the web site that you

mentioned without success, but your description was excellent. Curiously

enough, almost the same minute that I received your reply, I also got a

reply from one of the Swedish radiologists that I have been trying to

contact, using the Swedish word for " fan-shaped " , so that further confirms

it.

Subject: Re: EN: (metaphyseal) flaring

I don't have a single word in Swedish, but in French, the Gaucher disease

features " Un trouble du remodelage osseux, qui touche initialement la partie

proximale du tibia est l' anomalie osseuse la plus fréquente. Elle est

présente chez 80 % des adultes et se traduit par un élargissement bilatéral

et symétrique de la région métaphyso- diaphysaire de l' os, formant l'

aspect typique en flacon d' Erlenmeyer ( flacon en forme de trompette

utilisé en chimie). "

In other words a " fan-like " remodeling of the metaphyse.

Hope this helps

Philippe

EN: (metaphyseal) flaring

My target is Swedish, but translations in other Germanic or Romance

languages might be of help, as well as a precise definition in Swedish.

I know that this is an X-ray finding observed e.g. in many skeletal

dysplasias or, as in my text, as a bone manifestation of Gaucher disease.

But I don't know what it's called in Swedish, and all my usual contacts in

radiology and orthopedics seem to be on holiday right now. I do know what

the metaphyses of bones are, but it's the term " flaring " that I don't know

what to call in Swedish.

MTIA for any suggestions.
