Ok - so another question I have for anyone who had severe alterations after one

dose:

What other medications were you on prior to the one which caused severe

dysfunction?

I ask this because I think perhaps that has something to do with why I developed

complete shut down.

I had been on prozac on and off from 1993-97 with only " normal " sexual side

effects. Then was put on zoloft 1998-2006 - was told I needed to be on

antidepressants and believed the doctors that they were " fixing " brain

imbalance. This is so wrong!!!!

Doctor out of the blue in 2006 asked if I wanted to try a different AD to try

and eliminate sexual side effects and switched me to cymbalta.

Cymbalta gave me one episode of pleasureless orgasm and severe urinary

incontinence and even some loss of bowel nerve function. (Of course I didn't

know at the time that cymbalta did it. I just wondered what the hell was wrong

with me.)

Cymbalta also made me almost manic, thus in 2007 I decided I didn't need

antidepressants anymore and quit cold turkey.

That's where all my severe problems started as I went through withdrawal

symptoms and didn't know they were withdrawal symptoms. Just thought the

doctors were right and that I needed antidepressants.

Doctor then decided to try remeron which made me want to eat 24/7 so I quit that

one and then got put on lexapro which gave me immediate and complete genital

anesthesia.

I wonder how many other people had doctors try to " fix " their sexual dysfunction

by changing medications in rapid succession and instead caused worsening of

symptoms.

Or I'm wondering if anyone else has any theories on why one dose of medication

caused severe alteration.

That's a good point. I'm sometimes active on the newspaper online

comment sections but I have always been wary of saying you might get

PSSD even from just one dose. Could it be that such people have taken a

lot of medications in the past which did much of the damage but the new

antidepressant was the last straw? This is important to find out.

I was on Paroxetine (Paxil, Seroxat) for about 4 months and I had

trouble reaching orgasm, but when I did it was a bit of an explosion -

very intense. Still, I got fed up with it so my doctor put me on

nefazodone which doesn't affect sex drive, so they say, and it didn't

for about 2 months but then all of a sudden my sex drive just vanished

in a week. I was on the smallest dose and so could not cut down so I

stopped cold turkey and my body went berzerk with twitching. After 3

days I saw my chemist who advised me to go back on it and cut down

slowly which I did by cutting the tablets up with a sharp knife. After 2

months I was on 10mg (1/10 of a tablet) when my sex drive vanished

again. I wish I had stayed cold turkey.
