,

I did find the CTFA letter that I referred to last night. It was

written by Dr. Gerald McEwan and dated Feb 1, 2000.

Refering to the 8th Edition of the CTFA's International Cosmetic

Ingredient Dictionary, Gerry states:

" No regualtory compliance dates have been established in the US or in

the EU, which means that labelers may use the former INCI names until

directed otherwise. "

Earlier today, I've emailed Pat a plain text file that contains the

name changes between the 7th and 8th editions of the International

Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary. Pat will upload this text file into

the Cosmeticinfo " Files " area later today.

Personally, I think the names used in the 7th Edition are more

meaningful to US consumers.

To cite a few examples:

Comfrey (Symphytum Officinale) Extract (7th Ed)

Symphytum Officinale Extract (8th Ed)

Garden Balsam (Impatiens Balsamina) Extract (7th Ed)

Impatiens Balsamina Flower Extract 8th Ed)

Great Periwinkle (Vinca Major) Extract (7th Ed)

Vinca Major Extract (8th Ed)
