Guest guest
Kurt, have her checked for celiacs sprue disease. If they wont do it, go to another doctor. If it comes back negative, ask for a small intestine biopsy. Ardis as you probably know by now was my kindred spirit and best friend for 9 years before she died from alcoholic liver disease. One of the serious complications she developed is called Celiac disease. It is a rare allergy to wheat, rye, oats, and barley. The gluten in these grains is the culprit. Ardis was misdiagnosed by 1/2 quacks as well as full ones, 10 in all at the public hospital out here in Denver. They dropped her so hard through the cracks, she never stopped falling. They thought she had psoriasis. Celiac disease causes a severe rash under the arms, breasts, ,you name it, she got it every where. It started out as a small rash under her arms, and it spread to every where, and started to get on her eye lids. She lived in a camper in my back yard, and I had been feeding her for months, and had removed all the gluten from her diet. Back when she could walk, she wasn't real strict, but my then she was bedridden, and I was in charge, and tried to get her gluten free. I realized it was still in her diet in a significant amount from the beer she was drinking. I changed that by getting her gluten free beer. The rash disappeared until a nice nurse at the hospital gave her lasagna, and English muffins. Her encephalopathy was so bad, she didn't know any better, and I had top rip them a new you know what. This happened over and over and over. I believe that the celiac killed her more than the cirrhosis. Every time they gave her wheat, all of her villi would slough off , and she couldnt get any nutrition for 20 days until they grew back.. Villi are tiny hair like structures in the small intestine. Unfortunataly about every 20 days some one screwed up up untill her death. Good luck. Bobby aka RWE Rashes My wife has been getting rashes on her body, really bad like underneath her arms, and then like red stripes on her ankles and legs. She says it usually happens when she doesn't take her lactlouse like she is suppose to. Is this a common? The rash under her arms looks like a bad case of diaper rash,(close thing I could compare it to) Kurt
Guest guest
I used to get a horrifying rash right behind my knee. Nothing of the face of this planet itched as bad as that. I would dig it until my bark fell off and it would bleed. I couldn't begin to tell you how many socks I ruined with bleeding. I would haul off and dig it with my truck keys. I thought I would loose my mind. I would take hydrocortisone to it and it would completly clear up for a week or two then come right back. My Dr. said it was eczema (something like that) but it hasn't cropped back up in a while...and you better believe I don't MISS IT EITHER. I would even dig it in my sleep for heaven's sake. I thought I would have to go to an insane assylum. Guest guest
Thank for the info RWE, I will have her checked. As far as the small intestine, she went in for an operation to remove her ovaries and they nicked the small intestine, and ended up having to have a foot of it removed, then they didn't put a drain in, and she filled with fluid inside until her staples busted and a lot of other things happend but this is what started our long journey to end up finding out she has cirrhosis. Again thanks Kurt Subject: Re: Rashes To: livercirrhosissupport Date: Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 9:23 PM Kurt, have her checked for celiacs sprue disease. If they wont do it, go to another doctor. Guest guest
Hi Kurt, I hope you don't mind me speaking up. My sister had alot of rashes ( but it was from her Hep C) BUT, since your wife doesn't have a good immune system. Please keep an eye out for infection. Streaks running up towards the heart, swelling or hot skin is time to go to Urgent Care or the ER. Cellulitis ( skin infection) is not only life threatening but painfull. I hope this helps you care for her. I know you want to be the best caregiver you can be. I've been there, 2x's, last June for my Mom & for my sister for a while. The strange this is, I HAVE a caregiver. I'm disabled w/ severe fibromylgia. I see both sides :-) Many hugs & take care of YOU too Kurt. We all understand the stress you must be under. tilly From: Bob Aragon <robwalkingeagle@ yahoo.com> Subject: Re: Rashes To: livercirrhosissuppo rtyahoogroups (DOT) com Date: Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 9:23 PM Kurt, have her checked for celiacs sprue disease.
