Guest guest
Hi Sumi, I can tell you what I know from my own experience. My platelet count was lower than your father's. Mine was 59,000, and I had a whole liver transplant on January 6, 2008, and I am doing very well now. A few days before the transplant, the doctor told me I would need a partial liver from a living donor in order to survive long enough until a match was found for me for a whole liver. I believe a partial liver wouldn't have been good enough for me because I have Hepatitis C. The doctors said the donor would have to have the same blood type as mine, but the positive and negative didn't have to be the same. I am O positive, and a donor with O negative blood could have donated and it would work. The antibodies would have to match too, I believe, but I don't know much about that. I hope my experience helps you a little bit. I see Abijann already answered you, and she knows so much about these things, and like she said, your father needs to start the evaluation process soon to get placed on the list to get a liver transplant. I hope things will be alright for your father and you too. Take Care. Penny > > Hi, > > My father has been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. In 2006 he was admitted for the first time. At that time the doc told us that the condition of the liver is extremly bad and that thr is a growth on the liver which does not look good and therefore doc was not suggesting any transplant. Due to the condition of the liver he was unable to check if the lesion was malignant. > > Now few days back the doc advised us to go for a scan and liver tests. After reviewing, the doc says that my father's liver has regenerated which he feels is a big miracle considering the earlier situation. Now the major cause of concern is the lesion. This has increased its size and also the doc has suggested a transplant. He says its now the time to act and do it.My father's platelet count is not good.It varies between 65,000-75,000.We are concerned about this. How far is the success rate of the transplant??If the transplant does not require a full liver,i mean a small portion of it,could i give a part of my liver for transplant? Is it necessary to have the same blood group??Did any one face such similar situation ??Could some one help me with details.. > > Sumi >
Guest guest
I'm sorry, I just read what I wrote, and I feel like I sounded bad by saying my platelet count was lower than your father's. I'm sorry if that sounded bad, like I'm conceited or something. I didn't want to make it sound that way. I shouldn't have wrote that. My apologies if it offended you in any way.
