I recently joined this group, and am shocked at what I suspected some people

were going through from taking SSRI's. I've tried to resist taking them myself.

Last year I was on Lexipro for 3 months.

Well, to be brief, I've been seriously depressed for my whole life (I'm 46), and

just spent a week in the mental hospital.

They wanted to put me on an SSRI, but I suggested Remeron instead, thinking it's

not an SSRI, so it would be least harmful.

Well, I was way too sedated, and went off that.

Then they put me on abilify, which isn't doing anything, except, perhaps, making

me slightly aggressive.

I never have wanted to be on anything.

It seems to me that anything that works on the neurotransmitters, whether they

be serotonin or dopamine (abilify) is playing with fire.

The problems created by artificially increasing serotonin the focus of this

group.

The drugs that work on dopamine can create Parkinsonian symptoms, mess with your

bloood sugar, etc.

I don't see how using natural alternatives would be any different.

So how do those with chronic (so far) problems cope?

Could people just explain how you are doing it without these substances, if you

are?

My depressed state is really bad, and I have few social or familial supports, am

not working, and have no money.

People have told me to find a life purpose, to continue with cognitive

behavioral therapy, to eat better.

What works for you?

Fred
