Guest guest Posted December 26, 2011 Report Share Posted December 26, 2011 I have them ask the pharmacist to empty out half the bottle (it's 1%) and fill it with distilled water which makes it 0.5%. Swab in baby's mouth and on mom's nipples 1x/day for 3 to 4 days. Never had a problem with it. And Jaye, those little rats you mentioned? They were given 600x their weight in gentian violet and one little rat developed liver tumors. Even Vitamin D would be toxic at those levels. Jan Moms are instructed to NOT use it full strength from the bottle, get their cotton swab wet with water and touch the applicator stick to the wet swab several times, then paint the nipples purple 2 times per day for up to 7 days MAX.
