Guest guest
I saw that. I was actually hoping for something more objective..... I know I've seen something like what I'm describing, but I can't put my finger on it. One that is coming to mind is Amber McCann's article last year on is an IBCLC too expensive? Here is a PDF that ILCA made. They have a few others on their website. Guest guest
Thanks Beth! The one I saw at BfB didn't seem to be particular to IBCLCs. Aren't I a nitpicker today! Will check out the others. Guest guest
I concur with Ginger. It's a very similar situation here in Alberta, Canada too. Altho I would add to the list LE <lactation educator> and LC <lactation counselor> for my corner of the world. On one hand I think it's great that those helpers have a heart there to help other breastfeeding mothers. And LLL is a great place for helping mothers. Altho my personality is to try & figure out what is the reason that helper isn't an IBCLC or working toward achieving that credential? In my experience, those who truly want to see mothers receive the best lactation care, take it upon themselves to start working towards becoming an IBCLC {once they learn there is such a thing}. On the other hand, I have interacted with a few helpers who really at the core of it carry issues of authority within their own lives and so they are the ones who seem to continue to fledge along as LC's <Lactation Counselor> feeling empowered by their own hurt, rage & defiance rather than stepping toward being part of a larger supportive network. My 2 cents, Mimi ***which is largely debated on it's value of being 2 cents depending on who you'd ask ;P > > > > > > > > > > Looking for a good article to link to on FB re: role/impact of IBCLCs > > > > > (perhaps why it's important to make sure you are hiring an IBCLC > > rather > > > > > than other certifications). Guest guest
Here is my reply if you can figure out why the password won't work??? GREAT piece! It truly is confusing for members of the public at large to understand that there are HUGE differences in what the credential acronyms mean. Asking how many Lactation Education hours were required to achieve their title is the key illuminating factor I have found; even more helpful than knowing how many mother helping hours they have done. The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners policy requiring ongoing education and rewriting the exam are key factors to IBCLC's being recognized as the 'gold standard' in the field of Human Lactation.
