Hmmmm........

I'm not scared of any of those things. I've been on the street back in my

hippie days. I knew how to survive. I've lived in the woods and survived. You

just have to know a few skills.

I have a good job and excellent insurance. For example, my co-pay for Pegasus

is only $15. My copay for Ribavirin is also only $15.00. It can't get much

better than that as far as insurance. I have a $250 deductible at the beginning

of each year. I have a $20 copay for office visits.

There were times in my life when I had no insurance. So I went to free clinics

and once or twice used the Hill Burton grant at a hospital. Also, I was on

MinnesotaCare a couple of times when I needed it and qualified for it. I only

had to pay $4 per month to be on it for a couple of years, and then when I

worked for a temp service and had more income, it went up to $60/month, which is

still not too bad.

Then I got an excellent full time job and my insurance is as listed above.

I can't complain too much.

Were are a country of people who are continuely scared.

We are scared of what will be taken away from us next.

We are scared of having no security in our lives at all.

Medical care is so high that even if a person makes top dollar,

they still cannot afford to have health care without having an

insurance. A bill you get from one surgery can wipe out the

total savings of people who worked a number of years for it.

Someone explain to me why a patient receives a bill from the

provider themselves and they will charge the patient $1000.00 and

the cost is set in stone. While the insurance negotiates with

them and they accept the cost of only $100 and consider it paid

in full. People are forced to buy health insurance because of

this negotiation. To just try to get a cost down somewhere into

a normal range.

The insurance, because they pay most of what is left...say $80

out of the hundred mentioned...then take over telling you what

kind of care you can have, who you can see and who you cannot,

and because they are given this power...lord it over you and

place you in a position of being at their mercy all the time.

They are abusing that power over and over and the ones who

are suffering are the patient and the caregivers. It seems

strange to me that all providers will not accept payment from

all insurances. They will accept the regular Medicare plan,

but if you are in an Advantage plan, they won't accept that.

Why!!!!! ( because there is a negotiation going on as to how

much money each of these parties will accept or lose...

They have made it into a battle of negotiations...just like

a war) What happened to the days when you could go to

any doctor you wanted and any hospital that was needed and

just present your card and you never had to worry if they

would accept it or not? Now they got patients and caregivers

going to doctors and hospital begging them to accept the plan

so they don't lose them taking care of them and maybe place

their loved ones life at great risk. Unless they stop all

this negotiations...nothing will be right with our health

care system. It has the patient constantly running scared

of losing their doctors or hospital from one year to the next

as their health plans are change constantly by the employer

they have them through...they worry about who they are to

go to when the insurance is in negotiations which can cause

a lapse of care when they are told that the place who is

doing the procedure won't take the insurance which puts those

who are the most sick, at risk. They think that everyone can

sit around and wait till all these negotiations are taking

place without having the needed medical things they need to

have done then. Expecially when it takes a week of negotiations

to have the test done there because it is the only place that

does that test that isn't in another country to get to.

People are scared of losing their job. There are no jobs out

there except ones that pay pretty much nothing with no benefits

and it is taking them applying for two jobs to feed the family.

Women used to always be in the home raising their children and

going out to work was an option (not a requirement)...but they are

no longer. It takes two incomes coming in to meet all the taxes

and bills now. They don't want to cut back on taxes...so the

children grow up without their parents. I got a survey the other

day from our county asking about where they thought we should

spend money. It costs money to send out that survey (guess whos

money) and it was mostly to see if we needed more parks and

recreational areas. I felt like filling it out and telling them

we need more people to run the place ,that would look at more

serious and needed areas for that money...like helping those who

are sick pay their bills so they don't end up on the streets and

have to live in those parks areas....that is if they don't kick

them out of that, too.

It is really becoming so sad that there is less and less peace

that the elderly and those who are sick have. The times when

they should be able to sit back and enjoy what life they have

left...they are being tortured in a very cruel heartless way.

And because it is done by those that have money, they can get

away with it.

P.S. I forgot to say that I raised four kids pretty much singlehandedly with no

Before a flame war starts! That last post reads back different than

want I wanted it to say.

While I think it's great that there are those who can come back from

such extreme stress in their life and have opportunities to help them

such as great insurance or a good employer. There are those who

struggle. And it's not easy.

The government by no means knocks on any ones door asking if they need

help. For some they have the difficulty of finding the right

" government " door to knock on.

I agree with Abijann's post. And I will bet many others are in the

same boat as her. It's tough and it's wrong.

I guess it depends on which state you live in. Some states are more generous

with their help than others.

Hi, Every year Jeff's company he works for looks around for a good deal on their

health insurance. And every year Jeff gets stressed out because he doesn't want

to change health insurance companies, because he likes his Dr.s and he has good

care. His co-pays for meds are up to about $300. a month. But, hey, better than

thousands. Most of his meds. are $35. copay. We get them in the mail, very

convenient for us, and his insurance co. wants us to do that. Now, at the

beginning of the year, we are responsible for the first $2500. then after that

his insurance takes over. This deductible has gone up every year also. Health

care costs have gone thru the roof, and insurance companies don't want to pay

that much. We are just grateful that he has some type of insurance. And the sad

fact is that if he had not had insurance when he got sick, he would not be here

today. Sue

Bear in mind that is what they are telling us, not necessarily the way it

is! To imagine that the federal budget is messed up by disability and SS

pensions is ridiculous.

Check the federal budget and see what kind of figures you get. Considering

that it costs over $40,000 to get $10,000 worth of welfare help to a family

of 5, WHO is scamming the government? It's the salaries at the very top

where the employees don't even participate in the SS program. And they have

federal insurance and pensions that would embarrass us if they were made

public often enough!

Re: Scared

The whole problem is that the government borrowed money from social security

to pay for other programs, and they never paid it back, and now all hell is

breaking loose and the social security system is going broke.

No the social security budget is messed up because the federal government

borrowed from it extensively to pay for other things, which they never should

have done. Also, for the first time ever, there will soon be more senior

citizens than any other age groups. The work force pays for the social security

of the retirees. By the time my kids retire, there won't be any money left. They

figure it will be okay for everyone currently over 50, but for everyone younger

than that, zilch...nada.

I work for the State of Minnesota, and I can tell you that the executive staff

does not make all that much, nothing like they do in the private sector.

The federal budget is quite extensive and the layman would have a hard time

understanding it, which is probably why you don't understand what I said. I'm a

government employee and well versed in the ins and outs of government budgets.

It's not something you can just read over once and know what it says and how it

all interrelates.
