Guest guest
We are considering hospice. If mom has varicies that rupture will we have to terminate hospice in order to get them banded? Is that procedure seen as trying to cure, or is it part of palliative care? Are there other things that Hospice won't do that we might run into that we might want to do...? Can you read my mind??? LOL!! I'm trying to advise my dad about hospice. I'm concerned that if we make Hospice our medicare agent, that there are things they won't do because they are end stage only. I'm not sure how this disease will play out, so I'm wondering if for comfort, if we see that some procedure needs to be done...ie: the varicies instead of letting her bleed to death...would they agree to it or not? Anyone have any info. Also possible end stage scenarios that we should be prepared for. You can email me privately. ohana5@... Guest guest
Pam, Hospice will not and cnnoot make your medical decisions. You will still retain your own doctor. They are not against any measures to prolong life or make it easier and less painless on the patient. If your mom needs a varices bleed repaired her own doctor and family will make that decision and if having that done prolongs her life past the 6 months then she will be able to get hospice care when the time comes. Please call them. They are a wonderful organization and can and will answer all your questions better than anyone else can. My heart goes out to you and your family having to make all these decisions so quickly and to explain it all to Dad. Youre all in my prayers.
