Guest guest
My experience since my accident has been that my family doctor treats me like a person first then a patient as compared to specialist especiall neurologist treat you like a disease or a condition and fail to treat the person. I talked with my family doctor about this and he said all neurologist are a breed of their own. My neurologist refuses to prescribe me or other patients of his I know any pain meds at all. He told me to go home and take a valium, which I don't even take. My family doctor doesn't hesitate to prescribe me pain meds. Note: Even after my neurosurgeon told my neurologist that my pain is very real my neurologist refuses to believe me. I wonder since my neurologist is a DO instead of an MD makes a difference. Maybe their taught differently then MD's. Does anyone know how they differ?.. Sorry for the rambling, I really need to get things off my chest.......Pati
Guest guest
Patti, As with so many other things, it seems that understanding is not a universal human trait, & has not a lot to do with training, experience or profession. Seems like some people get it, and many just don't. I have had 2 very understanding neurologists/neurosurgeons. Wish I could share them with you (NY & Las Vegas). Is there a chance you could find another one? One neurodipstick I saw when I was beginning to lose the ability to stand & walk told me he wouldn't do anything until I was completely paralyzed. I asked him what then did I need him for. There was no response.
