Did the doctor culture the boil to see if it is staph? Boils are commonly associated with staph & MRSA. I would be very surprised if the doctor didn't culture it, given the current problems we have with MRSA. That being said, there are alternative treatments that are effective against staph, such as Manuka honey & grapefruit seed extract. She might want to seek out a holistic practioner to give her more advice on alternatives.

Hi, Everyone.

Permission to post.

Mother of 6 week old, breastfed fine for 5 weeks. Then baby got a boil on his skin and pediatrician demanded that parents give oral antibiotics. They did give it for a while, but then one day baby choked on it and she says he was gasping for an hour. Now he clicks when he feeds and won't open as wide.

She did have twins, currently 2 yo, who clicked all through feedings with bottles--they spent 3 months in NICU and never did manage breastfeeding, but she pumped for 7 mos.

Anyway, I think perhaps craniosacral therapy to help baby get over trauma of choking might be a good idea, though perhaps evaluation for tongue-tie might be in order, too.

Can you recommend anyone good with TT and also someone good with pediatric craniosacral therapy anywhere near Ft Meade?

And just for my own knowledge, the ped says babies can pick up staff that manifests itself in the skin. This baby's aunt evidently gets boils frequently and says "some folks just do." Never heard of this before. Can anyone enlighten me more on these boils? Baby still has his since parents now refuse to give any more antibiotic since baby choked on it.

Hi, Ladies.

A mom I just recently started working with is moving to the area near Ft. Meade, land next Saturday. Can you give me names and phone numbers for:

1. Craniosacral therapist with pediatric experience who works on sucking issues

2. Private Practice IBCLCs whose work you respect

3. Mom has Tricare insurance. Military MD here said baby has "mild" tongue tie and did not recommend getting it clipped. Grrrr. So, she needs the name of someone who treats tongue ties who can get a referral from the military docs out there.

Thanks for any help!
