Guest guest
I have an inquiry re:He sho wu, (processed rhemania ). It being traditionally used within TCM context, I'm wondering if any one has used it within a western herbal protocol. If so, are there circumstances that it would be contraindicated? Rising heat and all that??? I have a 47 yo perimenopausal pt, with a complaint of hairloss and irregular menses that has self-medicated with this herb and is now experiencing a prolonged herpes outbreak along with very tender vaginal tissues. (She also informed me of using Vitex tincture along with this!) Duration of taking the herbs was 1 month, onset of herpes and resulting tender tissues was within a week. Any correlation? She's stopped taking both as of now. Thanks in advanced. Also thanks again for everyones input re: heroin addiction.- _________________________________________________________________ Watch LIVE baseball games on your computer with MLB.TV, included with MSN Premium! http://join.msn.com/?page=features/mlb & pgmarket=en-us/go/onm00200439ave/direct/0\ 1/

Guest guest
Dear , I think you need to be sure of the identity of the herb you mean here He Shou Wu is Polygonum not Rehmania, processed Rehmania is Shu Di (Sheng Di Huang wine fried to remove its cooling nature, and make more tonifying). (Foxglove root to you!). They are both good blood tonics and can be used in highish doses although Rehmania can cause excess heat if too much or too long, it can also cause diarrhoea too. May I suggest that the original condition was of a heat nature and adding this further heated it and precipitated the current problem? This is the danger of not giving a balanced prescription. It is unsual though to give just one herb in Chinese medicine most are formulas and mixes which are finely balanced to eliminate problems. If you want a fabulous medicine (cream) for sore vaginal areas etc. either menopause or not then please contact me list I have a herbal vaginal lubricant cream that is very good. Best wishes, Lorraine.
Guest guest
hi, just to say He Shou Wu and Rehmannia are two different plants He Shou Wu is Polygonum multiflorum, whereas Di Huang is Rehmannia. Personally i wouldn't use either for perimenopausal woman but assume it is the Di Huang she is using. i can't see he Shou Wu producing these symptoms <though there is always the ecception> and i havn't used Di Huang but i can't help thinking it is just a coincidence and there probably is no connection between the herpes and the herbs, though i realise there might be, still it irks to see them coming up as the 'prime suspect' as usual. peace, anna > > I have an inquiry re:He sho wu, (processed rhemania ). Guest guest
Dear Rehmannia glutinosa is Shu di huang (cooked/prepared Rehmannia) or Sheng di huang (raw)aka Chinese Foxglove. Energetically, shu di huang is warm and is used to tonify the blood and the yin of the kidneys and liver. As the kidney energies, both yin and yang, are often depleted in perimenopausal as well as postmenopausal women, it can be very helpful for those women who are having hot flushes and/or sweating from a deficiency of fluids/ excess dryness and heat. Too much can be cloying and create spleen/stomach Qi deficiency but as part of a formula, it works very well. Polygonum multiflorum is He Shou Wu, aka Fleeceflower, Fo Ti root. Its action is to nourish the Kidneys and Liver and I have used it effectively on several patients (m/f)with prematurely grey hair. He Shou Wu apparently means His Black Hair! I haven't experienced any side effects in terms of herpes or anything else wth the use of these herbs and use both within Western and Chinese formulas. What is the patient using? If it is a pill, it may be adulterated with somehting else or she may be using too strong a dose which might create a weakness. Certainly, I wouldn't use either of these by themselves. Many Chinese formulas, where there is a potentially toxic herb included, will also include Chinese Liquorice (glyc. uralensis) which antidotes the toxins as well as harmonizing the formula. Hope this helps. Boys Guildford > > > > I have an inquiry re:He sho wu, (processed rhemania ).
