Guest guest
Listmates: I checked with the reigning expert on vacciations: This is her reply: Dear Jaquelyn, All that this mother can do if it is truly aseptic meningitis is to bolster the immune system. These viruses are not picked up as memingitis but as viral upper respiratory or GI illnesses. They don't have to go to the central nervous system but they may in a child that is immune insufficient. The meningitis vaccine will not help and may hurt as it has a full complement of Thimerosal. Aseptic meningitis resolves on its own and usually does not leave any problems in its wake. I would just give the child Vitamin C, cod liver oil, a good multivitamin/mineral and something like Juice Plus which stimulates the Th1 lymphocyte. Bacterial meningitis is a whole different story but apparently this is not what this mother is referring to. I wonder if this epidemic has something to do with vaccines and their effect on the immune system. I defer to Dr. Cave's opinion, and the decision always has to be your gut intuition. These decisions are tough! Best wishes, Dr. JM
