Guest guest
Dear e, if your patient has his left ear blocked with wax the first thing to do is remove the wax. You need to see the drum. Is there fluid behind it? This can usually be done by curetting, (its quite easy to do with a disposable curette using it with an otoscope) only syringing if it won't budge. It could easily explain the rushing sound in the ear and the vertigo. If after removal the vertigo remains it could be viral infection of the inner ear or mastoiditis from the dental infection (is she tender over the mastoid)? or an acoustic neuroma this needs to be ruled out by CAT scan. Trigeminal neuralgia is often well treated by vitamin B12 injections, (doesn't work with tablets) you need to find a doctor or naturopath who will do this....it is often spectacular. Herbally gelsemium in the Rx may help. In viral infection of the inner ear and Menieres I find a blend of stachys, rosemarinus, zingiber plus gingko useful as a base for the vertigo and nausea (adding antiviral agents if this is the problem). Hopefully your patient will soon be waxing lyrical! Best wishes, lind Blackwell ND MNIMH
