Guest guest
One way of looking at the issue of the two posts a day limit might be to foster an intention of listening to others and one's Self. Guest guest
Dear Mike and all, I am (grudgingly) willing to adhere to the two-posts-a-day rule (I think that this is my second for today) after this, if I can first have a chance to whine about it. Why is this rule important to people? It seems to me that it interferes with the spontaneous give-and-take of many interesting threads. Did Socrates have a two-question-a-day rule? Are we that afraid of things " getting out of hand " ? (It's only speech, guys.) When we are too busy to follow all the posts/ threads, the option exists to pick and choose some and ignore the others. Or do people somehow feel guilty about this? If so, why? My feelings aren't hurt if every list member doesn't read and carefully ponder every one of my golden words, LOL! Yes, I do feel better now, thank you. Regards, Dan Watkins At 06:07 PM 1/3/00 +0100, you wrote: > > >... now that we're back on even keel again (and for which, thank you, one >and all), can I just remind everyone - myself included - of the (I know >it's restrictive, but...) two posts a day limit? >Sorry. >It works. > >m > >>

Louise That's a very good point, Louise - and one which hadn't occurred to me! I accept the rule (although like most of the vocal members of this list, I forget at times) - because it has existed ever since I joined, so obviously if I had strong feelings against it, I would have unsubscribed ages ago. However, while acknowledging Louise's point and bowing to the wish of the moderators, I would like to register myself as being personally inclined to Dan's position. Why, for instance, does the rule go by the wayside during conflict situations, only to be re-imposed when things have settled down and we are getting some good discussions going? This seems to defeat one of the main reasons for having the rule in the first place - that a lot of people regretfully unsubscribe because they simply don't have time for all the mail! Surely (as we have seen) people are MORE likely to unsubscribe from a list where fighting posts are unlimited but fruitful discussion *is*. I think that fights are more likely to be caused when people seek to *control* things instead of just allowing cycles to take their course. Yes, people will unsubscribe at times - some temporarily in order to give their free time to other things - others permanently, if they find that for whatever reason, the list is not for them. That's life - we cannot please all of the people all of the time. However, having said that - I think that Dan and I are in the minority on this - so, fine - having given my opinion, I'll shut up - especially as I need to save my second post for more Sophia stuff! -- fa http://www.kingseyes.demon.co.uk/greatgoddess.htm
Guest guest
The rule goes by the board during conflict situations for the very simple reason that conflict is in need of resolution... conversation isn't. Thank you, Louise, for spotting what it's for. And that makes three from me. Good night. m
