My son is 5 years old and we just started this biomedical approach last

April. He was always speech delayed but really did not show any

autistic symptoms till soon alter his 4 year old shots (MMT, DTP,

Polio). We started the diet and supplements which included B 12

injections, Coromega, cod liver oil , TMG, custom amino

acids,N-acetyl-carnitine, probiotics and oil of oregano. We had so

many improvements just from the supplements in attention and language.

His first haircut hair sample showed low levels of mercury.

The next step was to start chelation. Since my DAN doctor wanted to do

more research with DMPS we started chelation with DMSA. We did a

challenge dose and the 10 hour urine sample showed excretion of lead.

We did the first full weekend of chelation and we noticed some

increased stimming and crying but it subsided after a few days and then

we noticed and increase in language and cognition. After the second

round the autistic behaviors increased. Lots of visual and oral

stimming and more hyperactive. Of course this was the week that he

started kindergarten. When he finished preschool last year he was

writing his name ,all of the letters and drawing pictures. Now his

writing is more scrambled and messy. He is crying more and having

trouble transitioning. These problems have never been this bad.

When the behaviors did not decrease after a few days I sent an email to

my DAN doctor and she told me to stop the chelation for now. It has

now been over 2 weeks and the symptoms remain. Has anyone had this

type of regression using DMSA? I heard that Boyd Haley said that DMSA

was a neurotoxin. I read about the great results parents are having

with the TD- DMPS. I understand about drug metabolism since I am a

nurse anesthetist and it makes more sense to have a lower constant pull

of mercury instead of a big dump every two weeks.

I know that sometimes after chelation you see an increase in behaviors

, but does it continue for over 2 weeks? We are not using TTDF or any

other creams.

My son also had a TSH level of 34 on his first test which has decreased

to 27 after 1 month of supplements. My DAN doctor put him on a low

dose of synthyroid and it dropped to 14. We have never done viral

titers or any geometric testing. Should I be looking at something

else? I really do not want to give him DMSA again. Any advice would

be appreciated.

Thanks

Sym,

That high a TSH reading definitely points to hypothyroidism. From

what I've heard, once treated and thyroid levels get closer to

normal, there should be huge improvements. A TSH of 14 is still too

high.

As far as the chelation goes, How is his gut? That's usually the

cause of regressions associated w/ chelation.

Things may go better if you get him well established on a milder

protocol before you bring in the big guns. Transdermal glutathione

and then maybe TTFD (since you're doing B12 already, the other

components of the trio). Also folinic acid should go in the mix if

it's not there already.

Hang it there, I know it's frustrating when ground is lost. We're

going through a bout of behavioral issues from some changes we made

recently.

14 is still way too high, from my understanding.

I also thought that the consensus was to use Armour Thyroid

(natural) as opposed to Synthroid (synthetic) to treat the ASD

kids with hypothyroidism.

Dr. Buttar told me that most of the kids on TD DMPS experience a 4-

6 week period of irritability and sometimes regression but this will

go away. Many families are saying that it goes away after a few

weeks. Also, (just my thinking) is it possible that you've loosened

some metals up (relocated them) and they never had a chance to leave

the system because you stopped prematurely? I'd consider starting

up with the TD DMPS. Terri
