And, I would count my blessings if he is quiet in the van, lol not many kids are! I would say that he probably is a deep thinker and when he is sitting, being quiet, he probably is just thinking about something! When he is quiet like this, you might just ask him what he is thinking. Tim was constantly babling, and it took him a few years before he could actually converse with others. With speech therapy and patience, this will come. Also, check out The Hanen Center at www.hanen.org/ This organization has a wonderful set of lesson plans for teaching your child to talk. You could ask your EI office if they would be willing to host a workshop for the parents to attend. I took a class from this organization when Tim was young, and I firmly stand behind their methods of teaching. Without that class, I don't think Tim would have learned so quickly.
