Guest guest
Lainie, My son can eat yams and sweet potatoes. He can't eat any grains (he gets behavior symptoms). He has always eaten red potatos, which are ok on the BED diet, but potatos are high in fungus, and I believe they have contributed to his itching. I, too, would love to be able to give him some whole grains or other healthy carbs. By the way, legumes are carbs too. My son does well with azukis, anasazi, and cannelini. All the others give him problems.... Try one at a time. al H.
Guest guest
Lainie, How does she do on potatoes? Becky Diet Help Please (3) was on the SCD and her stomach improved but she couldn't wake up, function. I knew it wasn't die off and felt she wasn't getting enough brain food. Dan doctor agrees and feels she needs those carbs. The problem is that she is allergic to brown rice (IgE)and the noodles are double in carbs vs. any of the flours. In addition to that, her stomach suffers from those illegal carbs but her brain does great. I've tried everything. Any suggestions? Although I have never tried it, I have heard good things about Papadinis lentil bean pasta. Lynne
Guest guest
Hi Lainie: My son also needed some carbs/starches. He was not doing well on SCD and his doctor also was very concerned and suggested we add back in some starches/carbs. It did wonders for him. We rotate brown rice, potatoes and tried millet and aramath but he didn't do well with those at all. We now eat beans, gluten free pasta and waffles, rice, potatoes (white and sweet) and a few other things that literally turned him around and the added bonus is that we got totally rid of yeast at the same time. Go figure! We DID however also stop all the fruit except now months later I allow some berries and occasional pear and we stopped all the veggies that were high in sugar. Every child is so different and it is just trial and error I think sometimes.. and I also find that as my son heals, his needs change. We use enzymes also.. did on SCD too though. Good luck and keep us posted. Many of us have tried different things and love hearing new ideas. Blessings, in AL > (3) was on the SCD and her stomach improved but she couldn't > wake up, function.
