Hi Listmates: Today we had a scare with my little boy who is 31

months. I am very cautious about letting him get out in the

heat/humidity we have in the southeast but took him out today late

afternoon WITH a cup of water to play for about 15-20 minutes. He

was having a blast- and very sweaty to begin with (this is good

sign). I pushed fluids the whole time we were out but after about 20

minutes he came to me with arms up and said " Carry Me " . I picked him

up.. this is NOT like him at all when he is engaged in play he

enjoys. I offered him water and he pushed it away and then his head

began to roll around. He then went unconscious as I was running

inside with him and had minor seizure like activity (jerking) while

I carried him. After getting him in the cool I stripped him, put

water on him and ice paks under his arms and still he was

unconscious.... with fast pulse. So I made the dreaded call to 911

(try to stay away from mainstream medicine!). By the time they

arrived he was conscious and very pale, clammy but beginning to

drink some juice (I think he was in shock I was giving it to him

since he has not had any fruit at all in months!)I refused transport

since he was seeming to get OK although they said that was standard

procedure in this case. He came around before too long but continued

to have very shaky hands, bad coloring and clammy... after food and

drinks and LOTS of supplements he seemed OK. It was hours before he

urinated again even with over 30 ounces of fluids in him and this

was a big concern to me since organ damage is a very real

possibility with this type heat dehydration or heat stroke (I read

about this after he went to bed and got even more concerned!). He

has now had a wet diaper and seemed fine when I put him to bed. I

woke him to check his diaper and he drank 24 more ounces of water.

During all of this I was reminded by Dr. McCandless that our

children are so very fragile. Slater has been doing GREAT in every

way and I think perhaps he is detoxing naturally now (smells like

skunk with no detox agent being used right now) and is I assume

losing vitamins, minerals etc while doing this. I am not sure if

those who are chelating need to be especially mindful of this risk

also but it would seem to make sense. My little guy is VERY well

supplemented and his gut is much better lately so this was not

something that would be expected.

It is humid here (right Ann, Maranie and Peg??!) and I have had a

gut feeling that I needed to be cautious with him and haven't let

him go outside at school or at home even except early and late for

no more than a few minutes. I guess now I know that the gut feeling

was right once again.

This happened very fast.. he was fine and laughing and then he was

unconscious minutes later.

Just wanted to share this and hope that nobody else has this to

happen-just wanted to do it as a reminder that our children are very

fragile.. even when they are doing extremely well.

Sorry this was long... it was frightening and most things don't

affect me that way. Please be careful, hydrate before and during

outside time and limit it in the humidity and heat. Common sense-

and we have done all of those things this summer but for some reason

today my little boy's body was very vunerable.

Blessings to everyone and have a great and safe week-end!

What a frightening day. I hope he is ok. I wonder if it was from

his mineral balance since he was sweating so much. Maybe

sodium/potassium? Have a better day today.

Hi ,

I know what you mean about the heat in Alabama. My child is older so she

self-regulates and just won't go out when it is so hot. A few times, she has

gotten frustrated and I think it was nothing more than being upset because she

wanted to go out and can't tolerate the heat.

There is another child in her class who has a major problem with heat. I think

they just have such sensitive systems. This has been a really bad summer around

here, the worst in several years and I have had a couple of mothers comment on

how it affected their kids negatively.

I'm so glad you child is OK. Let's pray for an early fall.
