Guest guest
Do try the ginger tea. Even chewing on a bit of ginger can be helpful. Old end stage Mom's urine is turning darker. She has been taken off the lasix and as we decreased it this week I noticed her edema was fine, but her urine became darker...any connection? Or is this just the disease progressing to her kidneys? She still takes spirolactone (or whatever it is called) for the ascites. She is nauseated which hasn't happened but once before. Anyone have a good cure for the nausea? Doc suggested ginger tea but said he would prescribe something if necessary. Thanks, Pamela
Guest guest
If your mom is developing hepatorenal syndrome, it would make her urine darker, and in my experience with Ardis, her edema AND acites went completely away in the last week after her kidneys were shutting down. I read the post after this one and want my comment to include both. I have learned a lot of valuble things at this website, which is educational for health care providers. http://www.endoflife.northwestern.edu/index.cfm We went through the whole " What will hospice do, and what will they not do " debate. They explained that if it added to the person's quality of life, it could be done even if it were quite borderline curative in nature. They all will vary of course, but I don't see them calling 911 at 2:00 am for a variceal bleed if a person is already in the final stage of dying, but then again, if a person is awake, and alert, and falls for instance, they won't leave a wound unsutured just because the person is not expected to recover from a terminal illness. You should discuss your concerns with the hospice director. They will be able to alleviate many of your fears. Definately get the prescription for anti nausea drugs. I am having battles with nausea, and it's the pits. There is no worse feeling in the world. Get phenergan, or even compazine suppositories if she's vomiting. They gave Ardis, AND Sharon compazine suppositories, and they worked like magic. I am going to email you the letter I sent to Kathy yesterday addressing the exact same issues. Good luck, God bless you. You have very valid concerns, and I wish you comfort in this most difficult time. end stage Mom's urine is turning darker. Guest guest
I. Sorry you didn't get it. I will resend it when I get home. I sent it right before I left for the ER this morning, and it must have gotten hung up. It is a description of my hospice experience with Ardis. I hope it helps.
